A group of five men on a Lake Whitney boat were ticketed for insufficient life jackets though four PFDs plus three water ski belts were aboard. The officer said ski belts don’t count as life preservers and skiers aren’t required to wear them. The men paid $16, puzzled by the rule amid safety talk.
A North visiting woman sought a product called Some thing Thins a clerk misheard as crackers. He offered it to be placed in the back seat or the turtle, a Texan term for the trunk. The anecdote highlights regional language differences and unfamiliar slang.
Clifton Blues and Clifton Reds head into a Friday night showdown at 7 p.m. with the Clifton Blacks and Crawfills Gap due later. Meridian Maroons and Meridian Reds also mix in as season races tighten across the Junior and Freshman Leagues.

Robert Holley 37 of La Marque died from injuries after a fall from a scaffold at a construction site in Galveston on Tuesday. Funeral services were set for 2 pm Friday July 5 at Clifton Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Spring Creek Cemetery in Meridian. Clifton Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Mrs Selma Bronstad returned home this week from a 17 day vacation to Corpus Christi where she visited her son and his family Mr and Mrs G O Bronstad and Bobby and Billy Also visiting were Mr and Mrs Lonnie Tergerson and daughters Cathy Janet and Laurie The Tergersons also went to HemisPub in San Antonio.
The American Lutheran Church program Promoting understanding among white and minority groups comes to Trinity Lutheran Church Clifton with a kickoff meeting July 11 at 7 30 p m. Ministers invite all interested residents to join. Subsequent sessions will be scheduled by participants to deepen discussions and improve conditions.
Clifton Lions Club members and their ladies meet at 7 30 p m Tuesday at First Methodist Church Fellowship Hall for officer installation and Ladies Night Banquet. Past District Governor L O Ike Carroll of Waco will install. Bill Painter to be Lion President succeeding Curtis Bakke. new officers include Jess Hammock Jr Sam Logan Charles Raines M R White J B Darden Clay Burns A R Fricke Jim B Smith. Six Clifton Lions attended the Dallas Lions International Convention. Dave Evans of Texas City named new president of Lions International.
Mr. and Mrs. Leon White will attend the National Future Homemakers of America convention in Miami Florida July 7 12. Mrs. White is Home Making teacher at Jonesboro High School. Patsy Schrank of Jonesboro Area VIII FHA First Vice President will also attend. They depart Love Field Dallas July 7 with the Texas delegation of 119 FHA delegates and 34 advisors.
