Jimmy Jackson of Clifton, son of George C. Jackson, recalls his father’s hitting prowess and a rare box score glimpse from 1914 when Babe Ruth began pro ball with Baltimore. Local Scouts Head to Camp Tahuaya for Summer Trip

Twenty local Boy Scout Troop 76 members sponsored by the Lions Club prepare for Summer Camp at Heart O Texad Camp Tahuaya near Belton. They depart July 14 from City Hall at 12:21 pm with planned check in, swim tests, and required gear for camp.

Clifton Area Records Near 25 Inches Rain During 68s 1st Half

The Clifton area received 2.10 inches of rain in the week of June 20 26, bringing June total to 2.95 inches and the first half of 1968 to 24.95 inches. Other county reports showed scattered showers with varying amounts. The 1967 yearly rainfall for Clifton was 37.40 inches.

Governor's tax plan off House favors 1 percent tax hike

The House passed a simplified 1 percent state sales tax plan, replacing the governor's proposal by ending local-option taxes and amending exemptions. Senate action was pending, with observers noting the move could raise about 100 million for the remainder of the biennium.

Most stores and offices in Clifton and Bosque County will close next Thursday July 4 in observance of Independence Day. All homes and businesses should fly their American Flags on this day.

Six Wrecks In Bosque County Injure Two People

Over five days in Bosque County there were six wrecks totaling 9 vehicles and one bicycle. Two people were injured including a 7-year-old boy with a fractured skull after a collision with a 1958 Ford in Clifton. A calf was killed in a separate crash on KM Road 2040 near the cliff tracks. Damage totaled about $1,575.

Clifton Record Earns Top Awards in TPA Contest

The Clifton Record placed among the top three papers in the Texas Press Association Better Newspapers Contest and won first in Editorial Writing and second in Column Writing. Co publishers James W.
