Annual Soil Crop Field Day at McGregor Center July 10

McGregor Center hosts the Annual Soil and Crop Field Day beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Friday July 10. The program highlights pasture grasses cotton research and grain sorghum trials with talks by Texas Agri life personnel and Texas A and M University staff. Attendees will tour the perennial grass nursery visit fertilized pastures and hear about disease resistance cold tolerance soil fertility and crop rotation.

Multiple Fires Hit Clifton This Week

Clifton's Volunteer Fire Department responded to several incidents Monday and Tuesday. A grace fire occurred west of Martha Ludtte's home. a tractor fire at the W T Whitley farm on Route 2 burned the steering wheel and seat after a butane tank ignited. The city hall street sweeper caught fire during refueling, likely a total loss. A Tuesday blaze at the Clifton Lutheran Swan Set Home damaged a dishwasher motor, producing heavy smoke but little structural harm.

Clifton 4-H Club invites families to a swimming party on Thursday July 9 at the Clifton Pool. Members should bring ice cream or cake. Linda Kettler reports plans for the summer camp will be discussed.

Clifton's Braves will play Crawford at Meridian at 8 00 o clock on Saturday night. Last Sunday the local Braves defeated McGregor 10 to 7 at the same field.

Mrs. Olaf Westgaard Dies at 88 in Clifton

Mrs. Olaf Westgaard, 88, died June 26 at Memorial Hall Clifton Sunset Home after a long illness. Born October 2, 1875 in Norse she married Olaf Westgaard and had two sons Odin and Olaf Jr and two daughters Mrs. Douglas Hill and Mrs Burgess Pool. Funeral services were held June 27 at Clifton Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Reverend Herrscher with organist Mrs R O Bass.

Dies in Dallas at 88 Gus Grimland recalled in obituary

Gus D Grimland 88 of 5811 Vanderbilt Dallas died Tuesday morning June 30 in Dallas after a period of illness. He was born near Clifton and lived in Clifton area many years. Survived by wife son David Grimland four granddaughters Harry Grimland of Waco and sisters Anna Grimland Flora Bruland Clifton Houston Forest City IA. Funeral set for July 2 Restland Memorial Park Chapel Dallas with interment there.

Bosque Territory book published with local support

Mrs. Hoel explained that the Bosque Memorial Museum Association financed the release of Bosque Territory by Dr. William C. Pool. Contributions from the Civic Improvement Society, Lions Club in Clifton, and individual donors made the publication possible.

Colwick Hospitalized for Ulcer Treatment in Clifton

Calvin P. Colwick, Clifton Record linotype operator, has been at the local hospital since June 27 for a stomach ulcer with tests ongoing. His family vacation last week covered San Antonio, Rockport, and other South Texas points. Mrs. Bart Ivey from Route 2 Meridian is filling in at the Record office this week. Friends learned M. J. Olson, a Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home resident, became a medical patient in the local hospital on June 29.

Bosque County Home Demonstration Council Meet at Meridian

Bosque County 4H Riding Club Activities Highlight June Parades

The Bosque County 4H Riding Club showcased its drill at Gatesville parade and rodeo with Karen White as sweetheart. New members Pat Close and Sherry Brown joined for the first time. The club earned trophies and ribbons at Whitney and Hico events, with multiple riders placing in barrels flag race steer roping scoop race and egg race. Members also rode in Hamilton parade and drill before a rodeo, and the report notes Willie Mae Wallace hospitalized June 29.

Clifton welcomes new Record editor and notes friendly town

The new Record editor arrived in Clifton last Saturday to publish the paper and settle in. He praises Clifton as a friendly town where strangers are greeted, merchants are sociable, and service staff are welcoming. He notes downtown business repair, many paved streets, and active industry creating several hundred local jobs.

Mrs Jorgenson Returns From Visit To Wyoming

Mrs Jorgenson traveled with her son in law and daughter to Dubois Wyoming where she spent three weeks visiting friends and relatives including Mr and Mrs Claude Jackson and Mr Kelly's parents She described Wyoming as cold slept under a blanket and two quilts and noted trips to Yellowstone National Park and Idaho Falls Mr Kelly is a US Forest Service biologist in Fort Worth she arrived Monday and stayed until Wednesday
