Central Texas Presbytery Meets at Marlin

Reverend James H. Elder Jr. and Ruling Elder John W. Blewett Sr. attended the Central Texas Presbytery meeting at First Presbyterian Church in Marlin January 26 and 27. Sixty three churches including Wichita Falls Abilene Waco and Fort Worth were represented for elections to the 1960 General Assembly plan ship education and the reception of Reverend John McCord. Moderator nominee was Reverend James F. Garvin with W C Monroe as outgoing moderator.

Miss Darla Gloff and Wayne Gloff Visit Abilene Christian College

Miss Darla Gloff and Wayne Gloff, students at Abilene Christian College, returned home for a weekend between terms. They were joined by her roommate Miss Martha Lloyd of Winters.

Mrs A C Nivin underwent major surgery in Clifton hospital Friday of last week. Her son-in-law and daughter, Arvey Swarthout and wife, from Odessa, visited over the weekend. Various relatives and guests visited Meridian and nearby residents, with trustees naming Sterling Smith to teach sixth grade at the Meridian School. Other items cover real estate transfers in Lake Whitney and Meridian areas, plus corrections on a previous land listing.

Lincoln Ferris undergoes surgery in Garnersville area

Lincoln Ferris of the Garnersville community underwent surgery this past week in the local hospital. He is recovering well and returned home Tuesday. Mrs Barton Pederson and her father T S Tergerson visited their sister Mrs FE Wallace and Mr Wallace over Sunday and Sunday night. Mrs Ida Greer and daughters Ruth and Velma Brandenburg of Richardson visited Clifton relatives, Mr and Mrs John W Blewett.

State FFA President James Prewitt visits Clifton Chapter

Kirbyville based FFA leader James Prewitt toured Clifton January 19 speaking to the Clifton FFA Chapter about leadership and judging contests and scholarships. He joined state VP Rallin Aars and Clifton president Hugo Anz Jr. in the photo. Prewitt aims to visit 300 to 350 chapters this year.

Baylor Humorist Entertains Lions at Clifton Luncheon

Baylor University humorist Lewis McBurney entertained Clifton Lions Club and guests at a Tuesday luncheon. Four Waco Lions Club members brought him to perform a ten minute set to relieve stress. Attendees included Reverend Piez Todd of Comanche and Don Blassingame of Arlington, regional director of the Federal Land Bank Association.

Bosque County TSTA Meets Here January 20

Bosque County Unit of the Texas State Teachers Association held its second of three annual meetings at Clifton Public Schools starting 7:00 PM. A Valentine themed supper was served by cafeteria staff and first year homemaking students. Miss Vara Gladys Jones presided as group president. The program featured the Seventh Grade Music Class led by Mrs. O R Jenson with pianist Lois Nell Lammert. Guest speaker Miss Lillie V. Lillard of Tarleton State College spoke on Cuba and Latin American topics with students David Coe and Ray Martinez. Lillard also displayed crafts and dolls from Mexico and Latin America.

Frost Bitten Bay Area Plants Highlight Mrs Peterson Note

Mrs Ted Peterson of 1655 Oriole Avenue San Leandro recounts a holiday trip to Auburn Washington where all plants except lilies and roses froze on return. She recalls Bay Area vegetation being thoroughly frost bitten and mentions a pleasant telephone chat with Mrs Bruland in Portland after recovering from the flu.
