Clifton readers are urged to study the Tuesday decision by the Hamilton school board to hire Kenneth Sparks as general contractor for the new school. The editorial praises the board for its careful process and ongoing meetings while urging taxpayers to read the full story for complete context.
Bosque County residents 18 and older are urged to register to vote for April city and school elections and May and June party primaries. A 30 day cutoff applies. by March 1 for April elections and by April 6 for the May 6 primaries. Automatic next year registration if a voter participates in one election.
Clifton's Selmer Erickson Post No. 322 of the American Legion will host a chili and beans supper at 6 30 p m on Saturday January 29 at the Post Home in City Park. All post and Auxiliary members and families are invited along with eligible service veterans. Eleventh District Commander Mc Anelly of McGregor will be an honored guest.
After a 2 hour 20 minute discussion the Clifton Independent School District Board of Trustees voted 5 to 2 to accept K A Sparks Construction Co of Hamilton for the proposed Clifton High School. Sparks edged Hawkins & Westbrook on several alternates, amid cost concerns and Sparks local hiring reputation.
Arrests tied to four dates involve seven suspects in Bosque County as more than one Clifton burglary is solved. L. D. Douglas 27 George R. Courtney 26 and James R. Thomas 33 all charged with burglary in the Fenns Fashions case. Henry Holiday 25 is charged in the Wall’s Clif-Tex burglary with $9,759 in clothes taken. Aaron Crane 18 and Ira Dickerson 28 charged in the Clifton Appliance Center burglary. Police say more arrests may follow as the investigation continues.
The Valley Mills Heritage Society will hold a benefit Chili Luncheon 11 30 a m to 1 30 p m at City Hall and a Chili Supper 7 to 9 p m at the school cafeteria. Adults and students pay 1 00, preschoolers 50 cents. Proceeds aid local history preservation projects.
Clifton High School home making students directed by Miss Cyndi Patton will run the program at the Civic Improvement Society meeting at 3 p m on Wednesday February 2. Hostesses for the February meeting are Mrs Everett W Wallace Mrs Dan E Orbeck Mrs C H Hoel Mrs Ole J Hoel Sr and Mrs J M Huse. All members are urged to attend for the program and business session.
Clifton area children featured in a Winston B. Lucas contest with first prize Wendy Patterson, second Michael Bowers, third Debra Lanham, and twins Danelle and Michelle Wiede. Engravings of some winning children to appear in this week’s issue and others in upcoming editions.
Bosque County Democratic Party Chairman Albert Hastings says no party directives have arrived on whether primary elections proceed after a federal ruling on filing fees. He questions who will pay for May and June elections and notes a possible state legislature special session if the federal decision is upheld.
The Goodall-Witcher Hospital Auxiliary met January 18 with 30 members and 11 guests at Mrs. S. L. Witcher’s home. Dr. Bergen Morrison of Waco spoke on The low in spirits or Bored Housewife. The next meeting is March 21 at Mrs. James Tuttle’s home with a discussion on The Gift Shop led by Mrs. K Stewart Tabb. The group expressed thanks for the Christmas Home Tour success.
