A reprinted five paragraph plea titled Clifton Is My Town urges residents to support their community rather than complain. It frames Clifton as the home, vote, schooling, protection, and social fabric, calling for loyalty, citizenship, sympathy, and active effort to improve the town.
Chamber of Commerce members urge local residents to join efforts and invest time and dues to improve their hometown. The message stresses citizen participation as essential to community betterment.
The WWI Barracks Auxiliary will meet Tuesday January 25 at 6 30 p m in the home of Mr and Mrs Louie Hauke at 302 North Avenue K. A covered dish supper will be shared followed by a business meeting.
Clifton VFW post members outline annual services they provide in 1972. They place large American flags in front of Clifton businesses on national holidays and during special events such as the Central Texas Fair and Rodeo weekend. The article notes many additional services offered by the post.
The Clifton Youth Center starts its third season this Friday night January 21 in the fellowship hall of the United Methodist Church. It serves Junior and Senior high students with 7 11 pm weekly activities and 8 12 pm dance hours. The center is run by a seven member youth and four adult steering committee including Beverly Jones Rhonda Turner Janet Conrad Connie Brownsworth Hank Horak Steven Conrad.
The Clifton Cubs football banquet will be held February 26 at the National Guard Armory Clifton. Jointly sponsored by Football Team Mothers and Cubs Booster Club plans are under way. The event is open to the public with details on speakers and tickets to be announced.
Clifton Police Chief Homer Waller reports 1971 set a new nine year high for traffic wrecks with 72 reported incidents including 14 injuries in Clifton. He notes at least seven more accidents not reported to police and cites new Texas reporting laws for accidents with damage.
The Ernest Prescher residence on FM 219 east of Clifton was totally destroyed by a Sunday morning fire while the family attended church. A passerby spotted the blaze. Clifton and West Shore volunteer firefighters arrived too late to save the home and its belongings. Clifton Fire Chief George Harris cited the early discovery by a passerby.
Clifton's Riverside Golf Club will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. next Monday January 24 at the Texas Milling Co office 204 W. 7th St. All members urged to attend this important meeting.
Clifton high school fell 69-54 to Robinson in the District 10- AA opener. The Clifton boys rebounded later with a 50-39 win over McGregor. Robinson’s girls dominated Clifton 71-19, with Clifton’s Jane Huse netting 12 and Susie Snider scoring 30 for Robinson.
Trinity Lutheran Congregation will install Pastor Ted Steenblock as pastor during a 10 30 a m worship service on Sunday January 25. Interim pastor Pastor Heinz Ziehe will conduct the service and preach. Steenblock, 44, was born in North Dakota and bred in California before studies at Wartburg College and Seminary. He has served churches in San Antonio Los Angeles County Mason and Abilene prior to his new post.
Hawkins and Westbrook Construction Contractors of Abilene was the apparent low bidder at 716000 to build the new high school.
Mrs. Robert Rachuuig, county chairman, announced 23 volunteer mothers for Clifton's January 25 Mothers March to support the March of Dimes Birth Defects Campaign. They will meet at 608 S Ave P at 6 p.m. for about an hour of marching and residents are urged to leave porch lights on to aid fundraising and awareness.
Seven residents were charged with DWI first offenses last week in Bosque County Court. Three pleaded guilty and received 250 dollar fines and six months probationary jail terms. Judge E W McGee called the week unusually busy for the time of year.
The Record reports error on Feb 1 start for Clifton from cans to sacks. Delivery of 60,000 paper sacks is now believed to miss the Feb 1 target. Residents will be informed when sacks arrive and the changeover is planned.
