Clifton High to Get New Track With Jaycees and Volunteers

Clifton High will install a new track this fall replacing the damaged cinder surface washed out by the Bosque River flood. Volunteers from the Jaycees and local workers, led by G. E. Jackson and T. H. Ralph, will handle curbing, cementing, and laying cinders to cut costs from an estimated 8 000 to 9 000 dollar project to under 3 500. The project aims to restore Clifton’s central Texas track prominence and support ongoing Tuesday night meets attracting 100 plus participants.

Eddie Amundson III Suffers Light Stroke Recovers At Home

Eddie Amundson III suffered a light stroke on Tuesday January 17 and responded well to hospital treatment. He returned home Monday and continues to improve. Visiting him over the weekend were his sister Mrs. C. E. Ellingson and sister Mrs. Edwin Erickson with her son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Daugherty of Odessa.

Mothers Banquet Awards Clifton High Football Squad

At Clifton High School on January 23 the mothers of the 1960 football squad honored players and dads at the annual Father Son Football Banquet. Twenty two A Squad and twenty B Squad members received jackets and sweaters respectively, with coaches praising academics and teamwork. Gifts were presented to coaches Aubrey Roberts Fred West and Richard Liardon alongside special blankets for Jimmy Jackson Dan Amundson and M B Jameson.

Mrs. Marshal Mitchell of Mosheim has been a patient at Clifton hospital since Sunday. Miss Wilma Schulz of Fort Worth visited Clifton with her parents Mr and Mrs Hugo Schulz as they plan a March 50th wedding anniversary celebration. Private Roy Wayne Etchison son of Mr and Mrs T W Etchison left for Fort Campbell Kentucky after a 15 day furlough and scored high on the rifle range. R C Spitzer, six months on National Guard duty at Fort Ord California, returned home and plans to remarry Miss Ann Miles of Mosheim February 11 then re-enter North Texas State College in Denton. Mrs Ira Callan and Mrs Dudley Mooney visited Houston with Bob and Earle family. Mrs Earle remains hospitalized after major surgery but is progressing satisfactorily.

Cubs Clinch Half District Race With Wins Over Lorena and Itasca

Clifton High's Cubs remained undefeated in the district race by beating Lorena 59 38 in Clifton and taking game one of the second round 73 15 at Itasca. Top scorers included Gordon Arnold 17 and Jim Willenborg 22, with John Willenborg 15 in the Itasca game. The Clifton girls split results 52 31 over Itasca and 22 29 to Lorena, led by Janice Willenberg 19 and Dossman 10.

Cubs Hubbard clash may decide district title

Clifton and Hubbard meet at Hubbard Friday night as the two top district teams. The Cubs lead district play undefeated, after Hubbard’s narrow loss on the Cubs’ court. Clifton seeks an upset in Hubbard’s gym, with Wiley Beasley and William Bailey sharp from long range. Clifton girls also play at 7 00 P M, followed by the boys. Fans hope for good weather to boost Clifton turnout.

Mrs. Pruitt Dies In Clifton Hospital At 79

Mrs. Pruitt Lillie S. Smith Pruitt aged 79 6 7 lived at Memorial Hall Clifton Sunset Home since 1959 died Friday January 20 after a stroke and pneumonia at Clifton Hospital Born July 13 1881 in Georgetown she married Benjamin Hines Pruitt in 1910 and lived in Waco The survivor list includes son Buford Hines Pruitt daughter Winifred Hanson nine grandchildren and a brother Funeral services were held January 24 at Clifton Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Oakwood Cemetery Waco The Reverend Richard F Daughtery presided Pallbearers were John Rohne Edd Meissner H C Jermstad Ernest Giese Jeff Hanson S A Hanson.
