The scene came with record gas use across 462 Texas and South Oklahoma towns and follows the coldest spell since 1951, with potential soil benefits and grain protection from the late cold.

Knust Captures Triple Berkshire Honors at Fort Worth Show
H L Knust of Star Route 1 Clifton won champion boar, champion sow, and reserve champion boar in Berkshire hogs at the Southwestern Exposition Fort Worth. Oliver Rudd Jr of Marshall Oklahoma took reserve champion sow. J W Huggins Mansfield won all four Poland China championships. Knust’s first Fort Worth entry since 1951 reflects his long breeding record. The show drew 5394 cattle sheep and swine with totals near 10 000 entries. The 1962 Southwestern Exposition runs January 26 to February 4 under President Manager W R Watt.

Mrs. Betty S. Smith of Walnut Springs dies at Clifton hospital after severe burns suffered when her clothing touched a gas heater. Aged 83, she leaves son George C. Smith of Houston and daughter Carol Mrs. Fred W. Moore of Clifton, plus four grandchildren. A longtime educator and artist, she lived in Walnut Springs and Cotulla during her career.

Marilyn Murphy five weeks old daughter of Lt Col and Mrs B L Murphy Jr died January 19 1961 in the United States Air Force Hospital at Frankfurt Germany. Her body reached Clifton and funeral services were pending. She is survived by eight brothers and sisters and by grandparents Mr and Mrs Bob Henderson formerly of Clifton now of Memphis Tennessee.

Funeral services for Sanders Aanenson aged 69 7 25 were held at Trinity Lutheran Church Clifton with Reverend Stanley B Knudsen officiating. Born June 3 1891 in Watkin community Van Zandt County Texas he married Lillie Lammert July 4 1937 and had one daughter Sandra Jean. He served in the U S Navy during World War I and was active in Clifton civic life. He died after a heart attack January 28 at his Clifton home survived by wife Sandra Jean and one brother Charlie S Aanenson. interment in Clifton Cemetery.

Major Wade E. Knudson has been assigned to the Military Personnel Division of the Fourth Army G-1 at Fort Sam Houston Texas. He comes from Southern Methodist University Dallas where he studied six months under the Army officer education program. He served 12 years in the Army and fought in five World War II campaigns in Europe. He holds the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with six clusters. He and his wife Martha and children Robert 13 James 11 Jeanie 11 and Molly 6 months reside at 240 Redwood Avenue San Antonio.
