20 Lettermen Receive Sweaters Clifton Jr High Honors Team
Clifton Junior High School held a banquet at Charlie's Cafe Monday night to honor its undefeated 1963 district champion football team. Coach Richard Liardon officiated as master of ceremonies and presented letterman sweaters to twenty players, plus trophies and gifts to coaches, cheerleaders, and squad sponsors. The evening featured awards, a film of the Clifton victory over Hillsboro, and expressions of appreciation to staff and players.

Clifton hosts a one night Porchlight Drive January 27 at 7 20 p m to raise funds for the March of Dimes. Local National Guard members will call at homes for contributions to support polio research and prevention of birth defects and arthritis. Money supports ongoing research and urgent program needs.

Mrs. Merta Darden Dies After Heart Attack
Mrs. Merta Darden 72 longtime Meridian resident died Saturday January 18 at Providence Hospital in Waco after a heart attack two weeks earlier. Born Thornton daughter of John W and Annie Taylor she married Thomas Lynn Darden in 1912. Survivors include two sons, two sisters, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral January 19 at Meridian Church of Christ with interment in Meridian Cemetery.

Band Parents Plan Pancake Supper For Clifton High
Clifton Band Parents Association votes at Monday meeting to sponsor a pancake supper to raise funds for Clifton High School Band. Dinner set for February 27 at 6:00 PM in the high school cafeteria pending pancake machine availability. Thursday morning prices show eggs 30 to 37 cents per dozen and grains with oats 80 cents per bushel and wheat 1.60 to 1.85 per bushel. About 525 cattle sold at Clifton auction with steers to 22.50, calves to 21.75, stocker steers to 25.50 and butcher cows to 14 cents. hogs at 15.20 dollars.
