Mr and Mrs Alvin M Knudson of Clifton hosted an open house at Trinity Lutheran Fellowship Hall on Sunday January 12 to mark their golden anniversary. Family and friends attended from Clifton Waco Abilene Fort Worth Iredell Meridian Cranfills Gap and Cranfills Gap. The couple married January 11 1914.

Clifton Volunteer Fire Department Elects Officers
At a regular meeting last Monday the Clifton Volunteer Fire Department named new officers for the coming year. Bill Blewett is president and George M. Harris chief with Clyde Seljos as 1st assistant, Calvert Bernhardt as 2nd assistant, Harold Kettler as 1st vice-president, E A Spitzer as 2nd vice-president, J B Darden er as secretary treasurer, Ornette Watson as assistant secretary treasurer, and Calvert Bernhardt, Homer McDougal, and Garland Wright as trustees. Most holdovers return. Kettler succeeds Owen D Ringness of Fort Worth and Wright replaces Herman H Landuu after his term.

Mrs. Marion Grimland Dies in Waco at 79
Clifton native Mrs. Marion N. Grimland died in Waco on January 11 after living in Clifton for years. Born September 23, 1884, she moved to Waco in 1927 where she worked in cafeterias and the USO during World War II. She was involved with Austin Avenue Methodist Church and the Clifton First Methodist Church in her life. The death is attributed to a stroke. death time listed as January 10 or 11. She left one son, Y. C. Grimland, and was survived by relatives in Clifton.

Clifton Buys Bosque Old Mill Dam and 29 Acres
The City of Clifton recently completed a purchase from Gulf Colorado and Santa Fe Railway Co. of about 29 acres including the Old Mill dam and pond on the Bosque River. The deal follows the city’s 600 acre feet per year water-use permission from the Texas Water Commission with a five year start requirement.

Mrs. Sam Golden Dies In Plainview
Mrs. Sam Golden 72 of Plainview died about 5:00 AM Sunday January 12 at a Plainview hospital after heart disease and pneumonia. The former Lula Whitley was born at Hurst Springs and married Sam Golden on July 9 1911. Survivors include her husband two sons Bill and Boyd four daughters Dorothy Sykes Doris Hillin Winnie Monroe and Bobbie Roberts, 22 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Funeral services were at 2 PM January 13 at the First Baptist Church Plainview with burial in Plainview Cemetery.

Clifton woke to nine inches of snow by Thursday morning paralyzing business. Schools closed and rural mail routes failed for the first time in over 30 years. Some firms kept partial production as workers reached jobs, while streets were cleared and kids played in a Roman vacation.

Three youths nabbed for attempted break in Clifton store
Clarence Beasley and officers caught three local boys aged 13 to 15 while attempting to break into Clifton Mercantile Company around 1 50 am on January 8. They admitted to stealing 21 from Pearson Plumbing 5 from Evans Implements gloves and keys from Erickson Feed Mill 3 from Dansby Feed Mills and to trying to enter Gillaspie's Spring Shop. They also linked to 16 burglaries and 12 solved cases in Meridian before being released to county authorities. Chief Bird commends Beasley. two local men were later arrested for multiple felonies and misdemeanors before a grand jury. Mrs Sam M Carr of Lubbock entered Clifton hospital on January 11.

About 600 cattle sold in Clifton with market active to fully strong. Prices ranged from 8 to 27 dollars for cows to calves, steers and yearlings up to 21.50, stockers up to 25.50, butcher calves 19 to 21.75, bulls 15 to 19, and hogs from 14.75 to 15 dollars. Egg and grain prices listed by Clifton buyers include eggs 37 cents a dozen for large, milling wheat 1.85 a bushel, oats 0.80 a bushel, yellow corn 1.25 a bushel, pecans 15 to 16 cents per pound.
