Mart varsity used height advantage to beat the Cubs 59 to 34 in a fast game Friday. Clifton led scorers with Jay Culp 11 points, Raines 8, Albrecht 6, L Schulze 3, and Ho rak Culp Bakke 2 each. Clifton dominated early with 16 in the third while Mart’s 18 first quarter points set the tone.
The Clifton 8th Grade Cubettes fell 23-18 to Robinson on Monday night after a rough first quarter. Emily Key Regina Smith Pat Raines Pam Anz Julia Culp contributed on offense while Lesa Hill led with 8 points and Yvonne Baker added 6. The loss leaves the season at 8 wins 3 losses as both A and B squads seek local tournament success.
Crossroads notes Mr and Mrs Allen Grimland entertained the Birthday Club and husbands in December. Guests included Calvin Locke Milton Brown Curtis Langston Raymond Lammert and others. Clifton Cubettes lost two games this week to West Tre Wars and Mart Pantherettes. In the West Tre game Jill Hansen led Clifton with 18 points while Connie Brownsworth added 11 as the Cubettes struggled with injuries and illness. Clifton lost 87 to 40, and in the January 16 game Mart Pantherettes defeated Clifton 54 to 22 with Clifton grabbing 18 rebounds despite a height disadvantage.
Kenneth Taylor scored 15 points as West pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat the Cubs Varsity 82 57. Clifton hit 63.6 percent from the floor and 62.5 percent at the line, led by Charley Raines 22 and Jay Culp 11 rebounds while Cubs commits 26 turnovers including 10 in the final period.
On January 17 the Cub JVs delivered their best effort of the 74-75 season with Otis Walker Sammy Hall Donnie Lindley Gary Raines Steve Henry and Barry Wood among the scorers. Henry led with 10 points while Raines added 6 and Lindley Walker 5 each.
The 7th grade Cubettes defeated Mart 23 to 18 in their first district game. Shirley Phillips and teammates led scoring while guards Phillips Horak Homer stad and others shut down Mart early. They host McGregor next Monday January 27 at 5 p.m. with Coach Jake Wimberly urging attendance.
