A local note laments not attending the ceremony where Captain Tom Ralph’s widow received the Bronze Star. The writer recalls Ralph’s service and honors his widow, parents, and children while reflecting on the difficulty of memorials.
The widow of Captain Ralph received the Bronze Star at ceremonies at the Marine Corps Reserve Training Center in Waeeu. Maj. John L. Avimons presented the award for heroic achievement shown while Captain Ralph commanded Company 1 in Vietnam. The ceremony honored his actions in leading his unit under fire, exposing himself to enemy fire, and directing withdrawal to cover before aiding wounded comrades.
Hulen Aars of the Witcher Hospital Foundation announced plans for a new 60 bed hospital on a 5.2 acre tract north of Gearend Mfg. Co. in Clifton to replace the existing 42 bed facility. The project foresees two new streets and parking for 200 cars plus an internal lot, with construction starting as designs and financing are decided. The cost is projected above one million dollars with funding from conventional loans HUD or Hill Burton grants and about 200000 in private contributions as a down payment. The clinic will remain at the present site for now. Additional publicity committee members were named and further details will be shared by The Record.
The John Wayne film Hell Fighters will show at Clifton Theatre in Clifton Sunday through Wednesday. Red coveralls worn by the actors were made locally at Clif-Tex Manufacturing Co, with only Wayne’s suit tailored in Hollywood for the star.
A called meeting for all Clifton Stage Band parents is set for 6 30 p m Monday January 27 in the Band Hall Clifton. Agenda includes completion of stage band uniforms a decision on travel to Brownwood and whether members will spend the night All parents urged to attend.
The Bosque County Unit of the American Cancer Society will meet at 7 30 p m Tuesday Jan 28 at the Mosheim School All board members and guests are invited.
Clifton Cubs varsity defeated China Spring 57 to 23 to improve District 18 A record to 3 0. Mike Hoff scored 18 for Clifton while Carroll Freedman added 12 for China Spring. Girls team won 37 25 with Janet Cannon scoring 24. Clifton schedules next games versus Whitney and Grandview with home match versus Valley Mills Friday Jan 31.

Mrs Fenn to lead second phase inviting local residents and businesses to join CIF.
An all male event at Grace Memorial Baptist Church Fellowship Hall serves a special breakfast at 7 50 am on Sunday January 26. Men in the area are invited to attend this community gathering.
