A rookie reflects on the complexity of firefighting beyond flash and hose as he learns about gallons per minute flow, pressure loss per hose section, and correct nozzle supply. He notes how improper pressure affects water reach, nozzle control, and hose integrity during a fire call.
The Clifton Industrial Foundation continues to grow with new members including E. E. Stewart Motors, Thrif Tee Super Market, Jenson and Parks Insurance, Clifton Livestock Commission, Powder Puff Beauty Shop, and James W. Harris. Total membership reaches 129 toward a 300 member goal as of Tuesday January 28 1969.
All mothers of 1968 Clifton High School football players are asked to attend a meeting at the school tonight at 7 30 to plan the annual football banquet for players on both varsity and B squad.
Two exchange students Miss Christiana Nana and Miss Hannah Nieff from Cameroun West Africa attend Maury Hardin-Baylor College Belton. They will present the program at Clifton Civic Improvement Society at 3 pm Wednesday February 9 in the City Hall dining room. Mrs N W Willett Jr leads the program and will host the students prior to and after the event.
WWI Barracks No 1887 and Auxiliary will meet at 6:30 PM Tuesday February 4 at Mrs Neill Terrells home 615 Westtrad Street Clifton Members urged to attend.
James A. Petrich 18 of Clfton High School is among six Texans named in the 28th Westinghouse Science Talent Search top 81 girls and 19 boys from 2,361 entrants. The 40 scholarship winners will compete in Washington for up to $67,500 in awards during the five day Science Talent Institute Feb 26 to March 3. Names of the 40 will be announced Jan 29.
CHS Cub Varsity, coached by Richard Liardon, won 58-57 over Grandview Zebras to extend their district record to 5-0 in 13-A action. Mike Hoff led with 17 points, Kenneth Hanson added 13, as the Cubs improved to 10-1 overall and prepare for Itasca and Valley in upcoming home games.
Jaycee leader Billy Miller of Waco and Texas Jaycees will speak at Clifton Jaycees rejuvenation meeting next Monday February 3 at 7 30 p m in Clifton City Hall. Clifton men ages 21 to 35 are invited with no obligation said Vice President Frank Smith.
The Clifton Cub Scout Pack held a Pinewood Derby on Monday night with cars under 5 ounces racing on a gravity track. Winners include Craig Culp first Den 3, Michael Brown second Den 2, Jim Hedrick third Webelos, and Bert Langston best design.
Two consecutive Sunday screenings at 4:30 pm in Clifton feature Time and Two Women and Breast Self Examination. Sponsored by Basque Unit of the American Cancer Society and Joe Enoeha owner, the events teach self checks for uterine cancer and breast changes. Pamphlets and Q A offered. pencils provided.
Clifton leads with nine players on the Texas School boy All-District 13-A football teams, including nine on offense and defense and six honorable mentions. Valley Mills and China Spring also place multiple players. complete 1968 All-District lineup lists Clifton’s Garlands Braune and more, with Jimmie Conrad among honorable mentions.
The Clifton PTA meets Monday February 3 at 7 pm in the school auditorium. Members of the Clifton PEA and Homemaking Classes present Teenage Fashions and sketches of activities under Mrs M B Jameson WHA adviser. A Bake Sale sponsored by the FHA will be in the building foyer. Parents, students, and visitors urged to attend.
The regular singing event at Lanes Chapel will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on February 2. Everyone interested is invited to attend.
Two area gauges report 1968 precipitation with A at T N Foster Seldom Rest Ranch and B at Garnersville northeast of Clifton. Downtown Clifton records total 43.40 inches. Monthly figures show January through December with scattered values and a note of 2-3 inches of snow.
State senator J P Word received 13 committee assignments for the current session from Lt. Governor Ben Barnes. He will chair the Nominating Committee and serve on Agriculture and Livestock Banking Contingent Expenses County District and Urban Affairs Education Finance Insurance Labor and Management Relations Public Health State Affairs Water and Conservation and Youth Affairs.
