CHS 25 Plans 51st Anniversary Reunion

Clyde J. Duke of Houston announced the Clifton High School Class of 1925 will hold its 51st anniversary reunion this fall likely during Homecoming weekend. He noted that all members who attended the class are invited to participate.

City reports 1975 tax receipts and delinquencies

City Secretary M R White told the City Council that Clifton collected 1975 taxes totaling 65 961 81 with 13 000 remaining to be paid before February 1. Delinquent taxes from prior years brought in 578 with 129 90 in penalty and interest.

Clifton Junior High Tournament set for January dates

Clifton Junior Cubs and Cubettes host the annual junior high tournament January 22 23 and 24. Girls teams include Clifton Hamilton St Marys Cranfills Gap Valley Mills China Spring Whitney and Crawford. Cranfills Gap is the defending girls champion. Boys teams include Clifton Hamilton St Marys Cranfills Gap Valley Crawford. Reicher is the defending boys champion but not entered this year.

Trapping program expands county predator control plan

Commissioners outlined a county wide plan to form four to five rancher groups for learning trapping of coyotes wolves and other predators. Rufus Hutchison will train groups at different sites with each landowner paying. typical group costs 20 25 dollars per man plus traps. Four sessions completed with 22 coyotes two bobcats and 13 foxes caught. more sessions needed. Three grass fires were tackled by Clifton volunteers.

Seljos Heads Fair Committee in Clifton Texas

Clifton Texas fair directors met at City Hall to elect officers for the year. Clyde Seljos remains president. Homer Mc is treasurer. Mrs. T N Foster becomes secretary reporter. Milton Dahl Jr remains livestock superintendent and Carly Simpson named assistant. Meeting set for February 9 to decide livestock sale details and space needs while ads deadline March 15.

Record Publishes First Offset Issue in Clifton History

The Clifton Record shifts from letterpress after 81 years moving to offset printing on January 14. Editor William T. Jourdan says offset boosts readability for readers and simplifies material for advertisers. The 1855 paper is Clifton’s oldest business and Bosque County’s longest circulation.

Breakins at Clifton Elementary and NBC Center

Police Chief Alvin James reported last week’s breakins at Clifton Elementary School and NBC Home Care Center netted two dollars and a citizens band radio. Clifton saw broken glass and sacked offices. NBC noted a radio missing from a employee’s vehicle after forced entry. Officer Wittie resigned to run for sheriff.

County halts 1976 pay hike plan

The county will not repeat the 1975 general 10 percent raise. County Judge Ward said only raises for 1976 will be for workers earning below the new $2.30 per hour minimum. The court approved $1,000 grants to Clifton Meridian and Valley Mills volunteer fire departments and raised mileage reimbursement for county employees to 14 cents a mile.

Multi-County Jail Plans Set for Early March Completion

Architectural firm Augustin firth completed a feasibility study and preliminary planning for a regional jail serving Bosque Amanche Corved and Alvis Counties. Bids totaled 15700 from Barnes Landes Goodman and Youngblood, the lowest of four. Grant funding of 20947 will cover the project.
