A grass fire on the Powell ranch near Clifton burned about 20 acres and threatened a house. Clifton Fire Chief George Harris said four Clifton firefighters and a Clifton engine plus Meridian personnel controlled the blaze before any house damage occurred.

Thompson couple return from national turkey convention

Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Thompson came home Tuesday after a week at the National Turkey Federation convention in Omaha Nebraska. They visited with Mrs. Thompson's brother Jerry Fardal and his family then traveled to Webster City Iowa due to the critical illness of Mrs. Harold Thompson who had a heart attack. They also called on relatives in Ellsworth Iowa while Mr. Thompson conducted business for The Thompson Hatchery.
