Sam Logan Named New Editor Of The Clifton Record

James Smith announces Sam D. Logan Jr. will join Clifton’s newspaper as editor and co publisher Monday January 16. Logan, 35, joins from Jasper and Hamilton papers with a background in editorial writing and journalism awards. He is married to Linda Spence and has three children, with church and chamber roles listed.

Signing Period Announced for 1967 Programs

The signup for the 1967 programs for cotton, feed grain and wheat starts February 6, 1967, with March 3 as the final filing date. Jack L. Rowland, chairman of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation County Committee, announced the four week period and flexible start dates county by county. The CAP and commodity programs require diverted acreage and offer payments upon meeting program provisions.

Neagle Trial Underway in Meridian Fraud Case

Defense lawyers argued during the Meridian trial that Jesse H. Neagle is not guilty of stealing $52,565 from Robert L. Cowan, presenting Cowan’s testimony as a setup. Neagle, 26, faces charges from a 1965 Hill County grand jury alleging check kiting and fraudulent taking. Cowan, then president of Covington First State Bank, testified about multiple deposits and checks drawn on Itasca banks.

Clifton mayor highlights airport and tax reforms

Junior High Basketball Tournament Final Games Slated Saturday Nite

Clifton hosts the remaining junior high tourney games with multiple matchups from January 9 to January 14. Readings cover Clifton versus Crawford and Valley Mills, Itasca, China Spring, Whitney, Crawfills Gap, Meridian, and Valley Mills with both girls and boys brackets. Final night features the consolation and final at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Hearing on Leon-Bosque Development Project at TSC

A hearing will be held at Tarleton State College Stephenville in the Agricultural Auditorium at 1:15 p m on Thursday January 12. State representatives of the Soil Conservation Service will attend to view activities in the project area covering Eastland Comanche Erath Somervell and Bosque counties.

Centennial Worship At Norse Church Near Clifton

About 300 people attended the centennial Lutheran service Sunday January 8 1967 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church Norse to honor early Bosque County Lutheran history. Leaders included A L Bronstad Clifton and sponsors Trinity Clifton Our Savior's Norse and St Olaf Crawfills Gap. Visitors toured local historic sites such as the Belfrage Reeder Rock House and Jens Ringness Homestead.

Lions Club Talks on Latin America and Local Leaders

Clifton Lions Club luncheon featured rancher Thomas Redford describing Central and South American cattle markets. Oren Knudson, assistant postmaster at Hamilton, introduced Redford. new members L C Holloway Vernon Erickson Bryce Massengale and L B Haley Jr added bringing total to 92 with 21 new in 1966. Civic Improvement Society ladies provided the dinner.

Goodyear Tire opens new Clifton store with three day gala

The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company debuts a Clifton retail outlet offering tires brakes and home appliances. Mayor Charles Isenhower officiates the ribbon cutting with massing officials as Bryce W. Massengale leads staff during three day event December 12 13 14 with 7 am to 5 pm hours and prizes refreshments and gifts.
