Dies in Waco Hospital Forson Rites Mentioned

Mrs KK V Forson of Clifton died January 10 at Hillcrest Hospital Waco after long illness. Born in Union City Tennessee she lived in Waco as a legal secretary and held several leadership roles in Eastern Star and other civic groups. She was married to a Forson relative and connected to Clifton and Waco circles. Continued on back page.

December Rural Accidents in Bosque County 1964

Patrolmen Wright and Lane release Bosque County Rural Accident Summary for December 1964. Fourteen rural crashes occurred, injuring three people and causing $5,045 in property damage. Full year totals: 142 crashes, 41 injuries, seven deaths and $304,166 in property damage.

Woods Move to New Clifton Home Before Christmas

Mr and Mrs Frank Wood moved into a new brick house on Route 2 Clifton the week before Christmas. They own 29 acres of the old Pate Cooper place along Meridian Creek. The home includes three bedrooms a den dining area kitchen combo a bath and a utility room. They also retain ownership of their former home at North Avenue G Clifton.

Biologist Discusses Bosque County Deer and Quail at Clifton Lions

Joe Stevens, research biologist for Bosque County, spoke to the Clifton Lions Club about white tailed deer and bobwhite quail. He reported a 42 percent drop in the county deer population from the previous year due to heavy hunting in 1963 and summer weather. Stevens noted a normal whitetailed deer presence with about one deer per 30 acres and cited 869 doe permits issued to landowners, mostly small holders. Final counts were not yet available.

Tri County League LVN meets at Clifton on January 7

Clifton hosted the Tri County League of Vocational Nurses in a 730 PM meeting with 24 members and 6 guests from Hamilton, Stephenville, Hico, Meridian, and Clifton. Dr Geli addressed attendees on shock and its treatment. Mrs Catherine Parrish joined as a new member. Refreshments followed. The next meeting is February 4 at Meridian.

Saigon Viet Nam Staff Sergeant Bruce P Huff son of Mr and Mrs Charles A Sowell of Valley Mills Tex has been awarded the Air Medal for meritorious achievement during flight operations in Viet Nam He serves as an aircraft maintenance technician with a Pacific Air Forces unit and flies with Vietnamese Air Force crews to advise on combat tactics Huff is a Waco High School graduate and is married to Jackie Crook of 708 S 24th St Waco

Fire Department Elects Officers Monday January 4

Clifton Volunteer Fire Department held its annual session to elect officers for the coming year at 6 30 PM Monday January 4 in the firehouse. All officers from the prior year were reelected including Bill Blewett president and Harold Kettler vice presidents. The Besque County Farm Bureau opens its first 1955 meeting January 18 at the Fellowship Hall of the First Baptist Church in Valley Mills. Superintendent Appleby Attends Mid Winter Meet of Administrators

Clifton Public Schools Superintendent Kent Appleby traveled to Austin January 6 to 8 for the Mid Winter Meeting of School Administrators. He said the session focused on Civil Rights Acts and financing operations for Texas districts facing rising costs. Bosque County superintendents and County Superintendent A. T. Andy Nutt attended.

The Social Security Administration in Waco says home workers may be covered. If a single employer pays a household worker $5000 or more in cash in three months, earnings must be reported. Standefer Family Attends Pace Funeral in Waco

R W Standefer and Mrs Guy Standefer, along with Mr and Mrs Jim Standefer and Mr and Mrs J L Standefer Jr, attended funeral services for Mrs Sam M Pace in Waco. Mrs Pace died after a heart attack in a Waco hospital and was buried at Oakwood Cemetery after services at Wilkinson and Hatch Funeral Home Chapel. She was a native of Bosque County and sister and aunt to the Standefer family.

Mr and Mrs Charles Fehler Sr of Clifton held an open house for their golden wedding anniversary at Immanuel Lutheran Church after morning services. Family members attended a reception with ceremonial touches, dinner at Snider House, and a rededication ceremony earlier in the day.

Clifton Civic Improvement Society votes funds for city projects

Clifton Civic Improvement Society members, after an executive board meeting, approved spending welfare funds on five projects. They bought a two ton Friedrich air conditioner for City Hall’s west kitchen, rented 1000 for street markers, donated 200 to Clifton High School’s uniform fund, and sponsored monthly yard contests with 10 to winners, plus a December contest with 35 total prize money for top three exterior decorations. The group formed in 1907 funds meals for the Lions Club and turkey dinners at the Central Texas Fair.

Clifton A Team Wins District Battle At Home

Clifton boys beat Joshua 75 to 67 and Clifton girls win 71 to 56 to claim their second district victory. Leading scorers for the Clifton boys were Pete Fredenburg with 27, Forson 16, Coffman 11 and Billman 10. Christie Jenson led Clifton girls with 30, Outlaw 25, Sparks 16.

Clifton cattle and grain prices from Thursday auction report

Prices from Wednesday's Clifton auction show steady cattle market with 575 head. Good to choice steers and yearlings ranged 19 to 21.50, butcher calves 17 to 20, stocker steers 18.50 to 21, butcher cows 11 to 13.50, cows and calves 90 to 160. Eggs grain and hog top prices also listed with oats 65 cents per bushel and hogs at 16.30 to 16.40.
