A Clifton columnist urges local fans to attend the Grid Banquet honoring the Clifton Cubs and their coaches. The piece praises the team’s hard work, coaching, and school pride and notes the event is a rare chance to meet the players.
The public is invited to a singing at the Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home on Sunday January 17 from 2 to 4 p.m. The event welcomes residents and attendees for an afternoon of performances and companionship.
Tickets for the annual Cub Varsity and B squad banquet are moving well with many Boosters selling today. Deadline is Friday noon, no tickets at the door, speaker is Tarleton State Coach Lloyd Taylor. Banquet Saturday at the National Guard Armory in Clifton starts 6 p.m. with mothers of players helping.
The Bosque County Unit of the American Cancer Society sponsors a Mobile Exhibit Truck touring Bosque County this month. Residents are invited to visit the truck at schools and con spicuous places to tour exhibits at no charge and take free literature. Volunteers will staff the truck and local residents are urged to view these important exhibits.
Voter registration for 1971 remains open for 18 to 20 year olds and those turning 18 before March 1, 1972. In person registration ends January 30 at the County Tax Assessor-Collector's office, with mail registrations postmarked by January 31 accepted. Certificates cover March 1, 1971 to February 28, 1972 and notices warn of possible special elections including liquor, school, bond, and road votes affecting local districts.
Paul Murphy of the Lakeview Recreation Association reports start of clubhouse and golf course construction on the Old Highway between Meridian and Clifton. 115 members joined, with openings for more, and visitors are invited to see progress along Warbler Drive named after local birdwatcher history.
On December 12 1970 three CHS students earned All-District band status and eligibility for All-Regional tryouts on January 9 1971. Tim Hoel placed 11th chair and Lazane Smith did not make the region lineup while Ronnie Casper was listed as alternate. Tryouts drew competitors from Class A through 4A with demanding material from TMEA.
The Clifton Garden Club will meet at Mrs. W. E. Grimes home 1002 W Pecan on Thursday January 21 at 2 30 p m. In Arbor Day observance members will plant a tree in Memorial Park Cemetery after the meeting.
A new non profit Clifton Industrial Apartments Inc forms with officers and directors elected to tackle Clifton housing short age by planning twenty low rent housing units. The group expects to secure a Farmers Home Administration loan to finance the project.
Clifton City Council met to approve paying bills and to seek bids for a new police patrol car. The council also discussed aiding the Volunteer Fire Department in obtaining a new equipment truck, with specifications to be drawn up after meetings with Chief J. B. Alexander and Chief George Harris.
Lt Gov Ben Barnes announces Sen Word fills chair roles on the Legislative Judicial and Congressional Districts Committee and Military and Veterans Affairs Committee. Word also becomes Vice Chair of the Finance Committee and joins nine other panels including Agriculture Banking County District and Urban Affairs Insurance State Affairs Water Conservation Youth Affairs and Environmental Matters, totaling about 12 committees.
District Clerk Fern White released a 64 name list of prospective petit jurors summoned for possible jury duty before Judge Byron Mevklennan in the 82nd Judicial District Court on January 18. Names cover Clifton Meridian Cranfills Gap Valley Mills Walnut Springs Iredell Kopers Whitney Hico Morgan China Spring and surrounding routes.
Texas Highway Department launches computerized renewal process for over seven million vehicles. Renewal applications arrive by mail in January and cover February 1 to April 1. Owners may renew at county tax offices or by mail with the three part form, fee, and a $1 extra, plates mailed from Feb 1.
Local business leaders call for volunteers, including men and older boys, to meet at 8 a.m. Sunday for dismantling Christmas decorations. Boom trucks and service crew from the community will assist. representatives from each business are asked to participate. Conney’s Downtown Restaurant will provide free coffee.
The Central Texas Fair and Quarter Horse Show holds its annual meeting Friday January 15 1971 at 7 30 p m in the Vocational Agriculture Building Clifton High School. Members and interested persons are urged to attend to plan the next fair and horse show and to elect new officers for the ITU season.
