Meinkowskys Celebrate 40th Wedding Anniversary Open House

Mr and Mrs Henry G Meinkowsky of Clifton celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with an open house at their Womack area farm home on Sunday January 1 from 2 to 5 pm. The event drew 200 relatives and friends and featured a hand crocheted table cloth and a ruby rose wedding cake baked by the couple’s daughters. Reverend Walter R Simpson Jr led a devotional service and family singers closed the gathering with Since Jesus Freely Did Appear.

Bosque County Traffic Record Shows 1960 Crash Rise

Bosque County saw more rural crashes in 1960 than 1959, with 101 incidents producing six deaths and 32 injuries and $47,858 in property damage. R T Jameson aged 63 10 months 29 days died January 7 at a Dallas nursing home after illness and hospital care in Shreveport Iowa City and Dallas He lived in Clifton Bosque County earlier and in Louisiana where he worked in oil He married Ruth Hart in 1923 after leaving Clifton He is survived by a brother five sisters and several relatives Funeral services were held January 9 at the First Presbyterian Church Clifton with burial in Clifton Cemetery

Personal Property Tax Values Set By Bosque County Court

At the January 9 Bosque County Commissioners Court meeting the court set personal property values to aid the Tax Assessor in valuation. Values mostly align with prior years with increases for class 2 pickups and trucks. Rates: cattle registered 60, grade 30. sheep registered 9, grade 4.5. goats registered 7, grade 3.5. hogs registered 20, grade 10. Merchandise to be assessed at 60 percent of inventory value.

Youth Admit Two Local Burglaries

Two 17 year olds confessed to burglaries of Charlie's Cafe and Madden's Sin clair Station in January. They admitted stealing cash total around $33 and a blackjack, were identified by officers, and later held for legal action. Both suspects reside in Meridian and Waco.

Reed Shows Lions European Pictures at Clifton Club

Professor W W Reed head of Tarleton State College Animal Husbandry spoke to the Clifton Lions Club about a European farm fairs tour by Americans. Films of London Holland and Russia were shown. the group landed in Russia after the U 2 incident and nerves showed. Lion president Raymond Rogstad outlined a mid winter Lions District 2 X 3 conference program in Waco. Tickets for a football banquet honoring the 1960 team were sold at two dollars. T F Crawford was welcomed as a new Lions member and Mervin Bakke attended the dinner.

An Income Tax School will be held for Bosque County residents at the National Guard Armory in Clifton starting 9:00 A.M. on Thursday January 19. County Agent Waymon Davis says top specialists will discuss tax returns, deductible farm expenses, social security, and related topics with farmers, ranchers, and others. The event features Sid Jenkins, Mrs. Doris Myers, and a Social Security representative, with a detailed schedule covering records, deductions, depreciation, capital gains, soil and water costs, and more. Services Held for John W. Williams in Waco

Funeral services for 85 year old John W. Williams were held at Clifton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Cantrell officiating. Born in Austin, he lived on farms near Clifton and Valley Mills before moving to Waco, where he died January 6. He is survived by his wife Phebe, five sons, five daughters, a brother, three sisters, 23 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
