Oxfords Celebrate Golden Anniversary With Open House

Mr. and Mrs. Oxford held an open house from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday January 1 at the Holder home east of Clifton to celebrate 50 years of marriage. Relatives and friends including nine wedding attendees attended. gifts featured a money tree and a four tier wedding cake. The couple has five children twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild. Luncheon preceded the event at the Ludtke home with family and guests from Clifton Corsicana Lott Leander and other nearby towns.

Mrs. Tom Defoor Dies in Clifton. rites held Jan 5

Mrs. Lucy Ann Dyer Defoor died January 3 at 10 30 P M after a heart illness. Funeral services were held January 5 at 2 30 P M at Searsville Baptist Church near Valley Mills with Reverend Carl Jones officiating. Interment followed in Valley Mills Cemetery. She was 71 years 9 months and 25 days old. She was born March 9 1889 near Madisonville Tennessee and moved to Texas in 1897 with the Dyer family settling near Valley Mills. She married Tom Defoor November 10 1934 in Valley Mills and later moved to Clifton. She was a longtime member of Searsville Baptist Church. Survived by husband Tom Defoor of Clifton a sister Rosie Hampton of Hamilton and brothers John Dyer of Pampa and Henry Dyer of Kilgore. Predeceased by brother Clifford Dyer and sisters Rosa Dyer and Maggie Dyer Griffin.

Bosque County Names New Sheriff A O Carr

Bosque County's new sheriff A O Tiny Carr was sworn in by County Judge J P Ward and began duties January 1 succeeding Clark Royal who did not seek re election. Carr a 53 year old Meridan resident with Navy service and a 824 acre farm says he will strive for cooperation with the public to be an effective peace officer.

Clifton Home Damaged By Fire In Studied Incident

Firefighters responded to a blaze at 216 North Avenue M the Nichol residence and Priddy home. The studio couch in Dr. Nichol’s study burned amid smoke damage to the study and adjoining den with losses including pillows, blanket, quilt, bedding, couch upholstery, mattress, two magnifying glasses, and a book.

Open House Honors Clifton Couple On Golden Wedding Anniversary

Approximately 200 relatives and friends attended an open house at Mr. and Mrs. Henry L. Knust in Clifton on January 1 to mark their 50th wedding anniversary. Bosque County 1960 Rainfall Near Ten Year Average

Five Clifton Record stations report 1960 rainfall averaging 37 inches, near the 36.10 inch ten year average. Measurements range from 30.30 to 42.80 inches with December and October heaviest, July heavy in the northwest and lighter in the southeast. Farmers note spotty showers and unusual lack of south wind, with new participant Paul Mueller recording rainfall for the first time.
