Screwworm control meetings planned in Bosque County

The Bosque County committee of the Southwest Animal Health Research Foundation met at Meridian High School January 8 to report progress and fund efforts. Meetings have been held in Kopper, Morgan, and Valley Mills, with Meridian area meeting set for January 15 at 7:30 PM in the Meridian School Cafeteria. Livestock owners are urged to attend to learn about the screwworm control program and have questions answered.

Farm Bureau Set for First 1962 Meeting at Mosheim

Bosque County Farm Bureau will hold its first 1962 meeting at the Mosheim school cafeteria Tuesday night January 9 with a covered dish supper at 6 30. Host Fred Vickrey will coordinate. Mrs Ruth Moore Injured In Early Week Fall

Ruth Moore fractured her leg two inches above the knee after slipping on ice while getting from a pickup with Henry Willingham and his wife. She is in traction in the local hospital awaiting or after surgery to place a pin. Also noted is Mrs Robert Barron of Valley Mills in Clifton hospital since January 7.

Mrs Bearden Dies In Clifton

Mrs. M. G. Bearden aged 76 9 3 died January 6 in Clifton after years of ill health and a heart condition. She leaves husband M G Bearden two sons George and Jake and step son Joe plus siblings and grandchildren. Selmer Solberg Dies After Stroke at 69 in Clifton

Selmer M. Solberg aged 69 years 9 months and 27 days of Route 2 Clifton died Tuesday night after a paralysis stroke. He was hospitalized since Monday morning and funeral services were held January 11 at Immanuel Lutheran Church Clifton with burial in Clifton Cemetery. A full obituary will run in next week's Record.

Bosque County Home Demonstration Club Council and Bosque County Farm Bureau co sponsor a driver training clinic at Clifton City Hall dining room from 7 to 9 PM on February 6 8 13 and 15. Personal Property Tax Values Set by County Court

The Commissioners Court on Monday January 8 set personal property tax values for the year. Values largely match last year with sheep lowered for registered and grade stock and pickups and trucks up about $100. Merchandise taxed at 60 percent of inventory value with listed rates for cattle sheep goats and hogs by class.

Clifton City Council Approves Curfew and Vehicle Tax Reform

The Clifton City Council at its January 8 meeting passed a universal curfew prohibiting loitering on streets after midnight except Saturday into Sunday 1 a.m. The ordinance empowers officers to require curfew violators to return home or face arrest. The council also moves to tax vehicles by 40 percent of the Automobile Blue Book value, replacing the prior year-based method, aiming to reflect car cost and age more accurately.

County Chairman Jodie Amundson announces the January campaign in Bosque County to fund polio research birth defect and arthritis care. 1961 One Of Wettest Years In Bosque County

Bosque County records for 1961 show an average rainfall of 49.29 inches across six stations with Boggy area at 51.84 inches and Coyote community station at 46.58 inches. Clifton gauges ranged up to 46.90 inches. January and December were notably wet while April was unusually dry.

Shower for Christensons Sponsored by Mary Circle

Members of the Mary Circle at Trinity Lutheran Church will host a miscellaneous shower for Mrs. Palma Christenson and her son Alton. Prices from Clifton buyers show eggs at 34 cents for Large A, 25 cents for A medium and B large dos, 14 cents for palettes per dozen, 15 cents for des, and dirties wanted. Pecan 14 cents per pound. Cream 46 cents per pound. Grain lists oats 70 cents per bushel, wheat 1.80, spring wheat to 1.28? per bushel, yellow corn 1.28 shelled or 1.10 ear per bushel. Cattle report notes no sales this week due to extreme cold.
