Meridian Man's Mother Succumbs
Funeral services were held for Mrs. J. B. Johnson mother of Paul John son manager of the Meridian Poultry and Egg Company at 2:30 Friday afternoon December 29 at the First Baptist Church in Grandview. Interment followed in Grandview Cemetery. She died Wednesday December 27 in a San Angelo hospital. The family had lived in Cleburne recently but were former Grandview residents. Besides her husband and Paul Johnson, she leaves two other sons and a daughter. Mr and Mrs C E Carlson and children Elaine Marilyn Jackie and James left for Pecos December 30 after visiting the Carlson and Schwartz households.

In district play at Hubbard on Tuesday January 3 Clifton girls beat Hubbard 35 to 25 while Clifton Cubs fell 31 to 41. Clifton B boys won 36 to 26 led by Alvin Spitzer 12 and Glen Murphree 9. Darlene Shipp led Clifton girls with 21 points and made the all tournament team.

Alvin Dahl arrived in Clifton on December 16 from Tyler to spend the holidays with his parents Mr and Mrs Peder Dahl and brother Laurence. A December 23 family dinner at the Dahl home included Miss Carol Wenzel and her family, Alvin Jorgenson and family, Dr Truett Valentine and family, and other Clifton residents. A Christmas Eve dinner in Waco on December 24 honored him again before he returned to Tyler January 1, where he works and attends Tyler Junior College.

Five fire alarms sounded in Clifton between Friday and Tuesday with four minor incidents.
