New Sheriff Investigates Burglary Here

Bosque County's new sheriff John Baxter and chief deputy Irvin Timms, with under a week in office, investigate a burglary at Clifton Implement Company's quarters on Highway 6 south of Clifton. Thieves entered Monday night or Tuesday morning, taking two large John Deere tractor batteries and ransacking the office for cash. Sheriff Baxter says fingerprints are clear and law officers will work with Texas banks to solve the case.

Farm Bureau Week Aims to Boost Texas Membership

Gov. Connally designated January 13 18 as Farm Bureau Week in Texas to push membership beyond 110 689 in 1968. Bosque County Farm Bureau ends year with 661 member families and conducts a statewide enrollment drive. Calvin Rueter serves as president and Henzie L Reders chairs the drive urging every farmer and rancher to join to protect their investment of capital time and labor.

County Superintendent Tom Heartsill warns that Governor Committee findings could force consolidation of Bosque County schools and raise taxes, threatening local control. Clifton Band to Join Junior High All Region Concert

Band members will perform in the Jr High All Region Band Concert at 7 pm Saturday January 11 at Richfield High School gym. Rehearsals in Waco run 9:30 am to noon and from 1 pm for two hours before the show. No admission charge and the public may attend. Mel Cowan is band director.

Final Services Held for Clifton Pharmacist George Colvert

Funeral services for George Colvert 46 were held at Clifton Church of Christ with ministers presiding. Colvert, a registered pharmacist and owner of Colvert's Pharmacy in Clifton since 1957, died at home from a heart attack. He served as a glider pilot in World War II earning the Air Force Medal and eight battle stars. He is survived by his wife Maxine, two daughters, his mother and father, with interment in Clifton Cemetery.

Pre-Dawn Fire Destroys Turnersville Gulf Station

A large Turnersville building housing the D. J. Hollingsworth Gulf station and several businesses burned before dawn. Firefighters from Clifton and Gatesville battled the blaze from 5:30 a.m. to after 7 a.m. with low water pressure, using pumpers to draw water from a creek. The four walls remained, but the station laundry shop beauty and barber shops were lost. two large butane tanks and nearby structures were spared. No injuries were reported.

Two Womens Cancer Education Films to Be Shown

An open showing of two films for women only breast self examination and Time and Two Women is set for February 2 and 9 at 4 30 p m at the Clifton Theatre Clifton. A doctor will explain the films and answer questions free admission. The event is sponsored by the Bosque County Unit of the American Cancer Society and aims to inform local women including high school girls.
