The architect’s drawing shows a new Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home with a 76 bed main facility plus existing beds to reach 160 total. It will be built between Memorial and Clifton Hall with major buildings razed and a centered main entrance on West 11th Street. Construction hoped to start in 1969 after bids in January and landscaping changes.

The 1968 year in Clifton saw 43.40 inches of rain, wetter than average. December was the driest month and the only month with less than an inch of rain at the Clifton Funeral Home gauge. 1967 recorded 37.40 inches, while other county communities are invited to mail in their totals for publication in the next two weeks.
J. W. Hardcastle announces Basque County Office chosen as the most outstanding ASC county in the district for the year ending July 31, 1968. The certificate cites effectiveness of total operations from August 1, 1967 to July 31, 1968 and is signed by Ralph T. Price.
As of Tuesday Bosque County saw no major accidents during the holidays but recorded three incidents: at Meridian on December 26 a collision damaged two cars on Highway 22 near the Courthouse Square injuring an 8 year old passenger’s tooth. at Valley Mills the same day a 1959 Ford struck a parked truck causing notable damage. and on December 29 near Clifton a deer struck a 1968 Oldsmobile, denting the door and rear panel with no serious injuries reported.
The Auxiliary 1887 and Barracks will meet January 7 at 6 30 pm at Clifton City Hall for supper and regular meeting. All members are urged to attend.
Clifton City Council passes ordinance creating Clifton Hospital Authority at a special meeting. It accepts Stewart Motors low bid of 2747.35 for a 1969 Ford police car with 426 CID engine and heavy duty gear, plus 1225 for beacon lights and radio from Waco Communications.
Mrs Harold Anspach national flower show judge will address Clifton Civic Improvement Society at City Hall dining room 3 p m Wednesday January 8. Session led by Mrs S L Witcher covers Capsule Tables and table settings with help from Mrs Granger of Waco and Garden Club guests.
In Bosque County 180 farmers joined the All-Risk Federal Crop Insurance programs, protecting about 3,200 acres and totaling $81,000 in local crop investments. Preliminary 1968 spring crop damage estimates total $18,904 for losses from moisture, wind, and insects as FCIC official Carl H. Lewis tours the county to explain 1969 coverage and endorsements.
Baylor University School of Music presents soprano Nancy Swenson in a recital January 7 at 3 30 p m in Roxy Grove Hall Baylor Univ Waco. Swenson daughter of Mr and Mrs R Q Allen of Clifton studies under Andrew B White. Highlights include Puccini aria Un bel di from Madame Butterfly. Clifton friends invited with no admission charged.
The 1967 rate law increases second class postage for newspapers magazines and other material. The January 1 1969 change is the second phase with first phase in January 1968 and third phase in January 1970. Editorial rates rise from 8 to 8.32 cents per pound and advertising zone rates move to 4.5 through 16 cents per pound. Special classroom and nonprofit rates also rise January 1.
