Congressman Poage notified The Clifton Record that Doyle John Borchers III was nominated to a principal appointment at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis Maryland. Borchers previously failed to qualify physically due to a jaw defect but has since undergone correction and currently attends the New Mexico Military Institute Roswell.

Mrs. Clarice Holt 54 11 99 died December 24 Providence Hospital Waco following months of illness. Born at Norse she lived in Clifton Dallas Houston and Norse church involved in Trinity Lutheran later Church of the Good Shepherd. Mrs. Anna Matson Dies in Clifton at 91
Anna Wilson Matson, lifelong Bosque County resident, died December 22 in Clifton after a stroke on December 16. She was 91, born November 18, 1869 in Selvig Sande Norway, and married John Matson in 1885. Funeral services were held December 23 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Norse, with burial in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Nelson Dies At Sunset Home
Mrs. Annie Bronstad Nelson aged 86 of Clifton died December 26 at 6:40 pm remaining at the Sunset Home since February 1955. Funeral services were held December 28 at Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home and Trinity Lutheran Church with burial in Clifton Cemetery. She married Anton Olaus Nelson in 1895 and had seven children.

Fire Boys Kept Busy Over Holidays
Clifton Volunteer Fire Department ran three alarms during Christmas holidays. A morning blaze damaged Floyd Vickrey home on West 13th Street while resident Fred Lange slept inside. A grass fire near Mrs Ole Oscar Olson’s home followed later that afternoon. A third call involved Curtis Bakke’s car fire in the Norse area, damaging paint and wiring but sparing nearby structures.

Mrs Dittrich Dies After Long Farm Life Near Clifton
Mrs. Louise Caroline Knust Dittrich of Route 2 Valley Mills died about 4:00 p.m. Thursday December 22 at a Clifton hospital. She was 63 years old and had lived on the Dittrich farm at Coyote with her husband Hubert Oscar Dittrich, who died in 1937. Surviving are son Arno and daughter Huberta of the Coyote community, plus siblings and many relatives. Funeral services were held December 24 at Zion United Church of Christ in Womack with burial in the family plot. The notice also details Bosque County farm demographics and changes in land, equipment, and crops since 1954.
