Poage Honored by Soil Conservation Society Chapter
Congressman W R Poage received honorary membership in the Soil Conservation Society of America from the Heart of Texas SCSA Chapter in Waco on December 29. Logan Crews cited Poages long support for soil and water conservation and noted the 1953 Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Act he introduced. The Hog Creek and Meridian Neil Creek watersheds seek approval for operation under the act which now backs nearly 800 local watershed projects. Poage, a Waco native and Baylor graduate, has served in the House since 1936 and chairs the House Committee on Agriculture in the th Congress, with 14 years as its vice chair. SCSA supports an international program for better land use.
