Two Injured In Holiday Wrecks
At least two people were injured in three area wrecks over the New Year weekend. A 1965 sedan driven by Lottie Bowman collided with a grain truck on Highway 6 near Iredell, spilling grain and blocking the road. The driver Gary Pitts suffered minor injuries. On the Bosque River bridge at Meridian two icy crashs occurred within three minutes. James Bakke and passengers Sorenson and Connie Brown were involved, with Sorenson treated at Clifton hospital.

Woman Charged In Clifton Husband Shooting
A Clifton woman, Margret Ann Bible, was charged January 1 with assault with intent to murder in the shooting of her husband Joe Bible. She was released without bond on her own recognizance as evidence is prepared for the next grand jury. Joe Bible was shot five times and treated at Clifton’s Goodall-Witcher Hospital before transfer to Hillcrest in Waco.

Postmaster Baldridge announces new postal rates effective Sunday January 7. First class rises to six cents for letters up to 13 ounces and ten cents for air mail up to 7 ounces. postcards five cents. air mail postcards eight cents. He notes paper and magazine rates also rise, with higher charges for advertising and third class mail. He explains merged rates for heavier pieces and flat rates up to one pound, with over one pound using existing parcel post adjustments.
