Veterans Register With American Legion

Registration of World War veterans in the American Legion program for National Defense moved off Saturday. A total of 75 veterans registered with the local American Legion post and carried out this plan.

Poultry Improvement Centerpiece of Clifton Banquet

The annual Father and Son Banquet sponsored by the Cit ton FRA featured a poultry improvement program. About 104 attendees enjoyed baked chicken with dressings potatoes salad pie coffee and croissants prepared by Home Economics girls. A junior FFA parliamentary drill demonstrated cooperative business methods led by James Cooper. James Matson noted the Poultry Improvement Contest, Lloyd Verne Homerstad spoke on contest aims and benefits, and Johnnie Ludwig stated 20 Clifton FFA boys are raising over 4 700 chicks this year for the contest. Arthur Nelson and Johnnie Ludwig performed a duet. W C Brashears Clifton schools superintendent praised the students program. Out of town guests included Supt Clara F Richards Judge Duck Cureton and County Agent FR Law. The radio feature followed the local program commemorating Washingtons Birthday and was sponsored by the State Association of Picture Farmers of America.

Belton Hereford Sale Tops $9,000 at Parks Ranch Auction

Polly Stanway of Lampasas sold a Hereford calf owned by D M Robinson for 8500 at the Central Texas Hereford Breeders sale in Belton. Rex Stanway, a yearling bull, was sold to Dr J S Robinson of Emory for 842, and Donna Mischief and other cattle changed hands. About 60 head sold, total receipts exceed 9000, under Col E C Gurtin’s direction as buyers from Texas New Mexico and Oklahoma attended despite cold weather.
