Clifton voters will decide on two bond questions March 14 at City Hall. The first asks to issue 230000 for a combined city hall police station community center and library and to levy taxes to repay it. The second seeks 70000 for sewer system extensions and improvements with tax levies.
A two car collision at Highways 22 and 6 in Meridian left five injured including Gary Wayne Allison in serious condition. Fredrick Barnnett Moffatt 18 Brownwood was charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle and jailed in Bosque County pending a $1000 bond.
Girl Scout cookies go on sale this Friday at 4 p.m. A larger family-size box will be offered for 1.00. Brownie and Girl Scout troops will sell the cookies to raise funds for Camp Kachuwa and related camp improvements.
Clifton area men invited to meet at 6 30 p m tonight at Down town Restaurant in Clifton to learn about forming a new civic club affiliated with Optimists International. Fort Worth Optimists will explain the club’s workings. attendance is informational with no obligation to join.
Deadline looms March 1 for candidate filing in City Council and School Board races set for April 1. Three City Council terms expire this April including Mayor Pro Tem Jim B. Smith and councilmen Doyle Crews and Merle Belcher. As of Wednesday only two candidates, Doyle Crews and W. C. Ledbetter, had filed for the three vacancies. Smith and Belcher will not seek reelection. In the School Trustee race, only incumbents Charles Fehler Jr Olee Bakke and James W. Smith have filed to seek reelection.
The Clifton Civic Improvement Society will install new officers for 1972 73 during the Wednesday March 1 meeting. A no host dinner follows at City Hall dining room at noon with a business session to follow. Members should bring one covered dish plus place setting. Bread and coffee provided.
At a two hour Clifton City Council meeting, bids were opened on the former Show Lumber Co. property with one bid from Mr. McCary for 23000. Critics argued moving downtown would hurt business while officials discussed a West 5th option and the town hall center plan.
The Walnut Springs Lions Club hosts the annual Rattlesnake Hunt from March 3 to 5 with hunters from many states. Over $200 in prizes and 13 trophies are awarded on the final day, plus a dance in the Lions Den Saturday night. Pit shows run daily with live snake-handling demos for the public. Kop per and Chilton, district champions, meet in a 7 30 p m practice game at Clifton High School Gym Friday February 25. Admission is 1 00 for adults and 50c for public school students.
Bosque County Tax Assessor Collector Earl Behringer announced the county tax office will open in the courthouse on Saturday mornings from 9 to 12 for patron convenience in effect starting April 1, 1972.
