The school reports about half the pupils at home lowering the weekly average. Monthly average daily attendance ending Feb 2 was 211 with 105 boys and 108 girls. Arbor Day Monday will close the school for tree planting on the playground afternoon. A financial report on the private school term is promised next week.
A report from Clifton Laskaran College notes a pleasant past event where a BA G C entertainment at Rev. and Mrs. Lewis’s home drew strong speeches and refreshments. Students are commended for their effort, and Prof. F W C Jesse plans a new residence near the area.
Saturday rain brought relief to Turnersville though more is needed. Visits abound as Mrs J W Bowden and 80m Nance return from Crawford to see daughter Mrs Hix. Maude Snell of Clifton visits her brother Will Snell and family. Clarence Mangum welcomes a newborn daughter, same joy for Will Snell and wife. N M Cook made a business trip to Gluton. Mrs John Prather visits sick father in Fisher Co. Rannelotte Grimland pays Jan 20 subscription. Willie Mae Smith of Dalhart visits aunt Mrs RB Davidson.
Mericent School District treasurer report approved and funds shifted to jury fund. Officials’ reports accepted, Confederate Pension for a veteran’s wife approved. Resignation of Precinct Justice of the Peace accepted. J W Standifer appointed to unexpired term. Special jury lists for March 2 include numerous names with residences noted. weathered ledger lines and a medicinal ad at end.
