A new electric light and power company was launched in Clifton led by W G Scarff of Dallas and Dr Chambers. The stock opens at 25000 with most already sold. The plant will use steam power for 1200 lights and meters to charge only for usage. A modern steam laundry is also planned alongside the power plant. Fortified by Scarff backing, the project aims to be operational within 30 days and promises better rates and service.
J W Rudasill attended the Directors Meeting of the T C A R in Waco Tuesday evening. Mrs Lee Rudasill left for a short visit to her brother in Dallas before moving into her new Meridian home. Pearl Batson of Norman Gee Texas will fill the Meridian public school vacancy created by Mrs Preston Hornbuckle’s resignation. Frank Hornbuckle visited from Austin and spent time in Meridian. The U D C plans a monthly music program at the Public Library starting Friday night. Dr W S Smith returns to Meridian to resume practice, making Meridian headquarters. An official bank statement from the Clifton State Bank in Clifton Texas is sworn by President H H Baley and Cashier J M Jenson. They attest the figures are true to the best of their knowledge and belief and the document is notarized by Henry Lockett with directors Fritz Bertrand J H Bekken and C Parks signing as correct attest.
Last Thursday night a fire in the militia armory room in Clifton was quickly controlled by the Fire Company after W W Womack raised the alarm. Two water streams saved the block from total loss, with only uniforms burned and property damage to offices and goods from water. Losses are insured with policies totaling around 3,000, and no major injuries reported. Clifton’s tire company credited for prompt response and preventing a wider catastrophe.
Farmers invited to meeting with the Commercial Club at City Hall on Monday night to discuss establishing a Clifton creamery. All members urged to attend as figures and statistics will be presented. J W Butler president.
