Predator control plans to be made this Tuesday

Final plans for new predator control measures will be made at 8 a.m. Tuesday in the district courtroom of the county courthouse in Meridian. Landowners are asked to sign agreements and bring them to the meeting or submit them to the county commissioners. Troubleshooters from the Texas Animal Damage Control Association will attend to work out the schedule.

Norwegian Doll Exhibit at Bosque Memorial Draws Visitors

More than 150 visitors viewed the Norwegian exhibit at Bosque Memorial Museum on Sunday with tea. Youth guides from the Junior Historians led displays wearing new Norwegian costumes and offering commentary. the exhibit travels to Phoenix for a University show in two Sundays.

Arrest in Valley Mills on drugs and weapon charges

An adult male was arrested in Valley Mills Saturday night on marijuana and weapon charges. Gerald Baker of Clifton with the Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol took the man into custody at 10:50 p.m. He was charged with carrying a prohibited weapon and possession of more than two ounces of marijuana. He appeared before Judge W. R. Lively for bond and disposition of the two counts.

CHS Stageband Earns I Rating At White Settlement Contest

CHS Stageband earned a Division I rating at the White Settlement Stage Band Festival on Feb. 5 with Clifton’s group placing a student in the All-Star Band. Billy Anz named outstanding soloist. Curtis Wilson led a 20 minute post contest clinic.

Clifton Cubettes Tame Troy In District Playoff Clash

Clifton Cubettes beat Troy 50 to 43 to set up a Thursday showdown with China Spring in McGregor for the district championship. Deb orah Ludwig scored 22 and rebounded 12. Lynn Canuteson added 16 points and 6 boards as the guards stifled Troy’s offense. The win gives Clifton 22 wins and 7 losses on the season with a 10-2 district mark.

Grass Fires Challenge Clifton Volunteers All Week

Four grass fires in a week kept the Clifton Volunteer Fire Department busy. Responders tackled blazes at the J. B. Wood property on Friday and Saturday, at David Dahl’s Womack property on Monday, and another on Old Mill Rd. A pickup fire in a barn at Thompson Turkey Hatchery on Sunday left the structure totally damaged.

Uniform Allowance Adopted For Sheriff Personnel

The Commissioners Court approved a $500 annual uniform allowance for sheriff's department personnel. Commissioner E. W. Page urged more uniformity in dress among officers, saying the current appearance does not meet the intended standard.

Bosque County to join 242nd Judicial District

Bosque County will join Comanche and Hamilton Counties in the 242nd district under emergency legislation. The plan, backed by Gov. Briscoe, aims to ease swollen dockets with 23 new district courts at an estimated annual state cost of 835,660 dollars.

Multi-county jail plan eyed for Bosque Coryell Hamilton Mills

County Judge Charles K Ward Jr says public meetings on a proposed multi county jail could occur within 30 days. The plan targets Bosque Coryell and Hamilton Counties with Mills possibly joining. Comanche and Mills have withdrawn to renovate existing facilities.

Kim Davie Leads Clifton Jaycees Miss Waco Pageant

Clifton Jaycees sponsor Kim Davie for the Miss Waco Pageant to be held April 1. Entrance fees support the Miss Waco Scholarship Fund with the total prize to the Miss Waco winner and the talent scholarship recipient. Davie, a Baylor pre nursing student and Clifton High School 1976 graduate, is interviewing with Miss Waco director Debbie Adams. deadline for entries is March 4.

Clifton plans three bloodbanks to meet 1977 quota

Clifton prepares for a February 15 bloodbank at First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall from 12 noon to 6 pm, aiming 150 units. Rev. Bryan Thornburg chairs ministers’ bloodbank, with Mrs. Ray Smith coordinating volunteers and publicity by Rev. Ted Steenblock.

Clifton police report minor incidents in week

Two thieves used by the band were taken in a break at Clifton High School Thursday night. Police Chief Alvin James said a window was broken to gain entry. Two adults were arrested on misdemeanor charges in the past week. One man was arrested at 11 50 p m Thursday for speeding and driving without a license. fined before Judge W R Lively. The October to December 1976 quarter remittance from State Comptroller Bullock totaled 3.3 million dollars to 313 cities and 197 counties. County and city shares were 15 percent each, with Harris County receiving the largest check of 500,843 dollars from mixed drink sales of 33.3 million.
