Damaging Mailboxes Leads to Heavy Fines Nationwide

Postmaster Baldridge warns mail receptacles are protected by federal law. In the past year about 25 000 mailboxes were damaged or destroyed and 2041 people were arrested for such acts. Penalties include fines up to 1000 and up to three years imprisonment.

Clifton VFW Hall Honors Scouts With Free Movie

Clifton Cub Scout Pack 234 met December 19 at the Clifton VFW Hall with Cub Master Joe K Brown presiding. Den 3 won the honor of a free movie. awards included Bear, Wolf, Gold Arrow and Silver Arrow badges for multiple scouts.

Grass fires reported near Clifton and Laguna Park

Two grass fires occurred Saturday December 24. The first at 11 10 am along Highway 219 on Bob Whitley’s property caused no damage. the second at 2 15 pm at Laguna Park was controlled by firemen with no damage.

Police Patrol Reports Traffic Violations and Minor Accident

Chief Eldon J. Forbess issued traffic violations for December 18 to 24, 1966 including improper turn without safety causing accident loud mufflers and excessive noise. A minor collision occurred December 22 at Ave D and 5th St between a 1966 Chevrolet pickup and a 1955 Ford sedan causing about 150 dollars damage to the car and 40 to 60 dollars to the pickup with no injuries.

E R Benfer Receives Air Force Commendation Medal

Staff Sergeant Eulan R. Benfer, data processing machine operator in the Air Force intelligence division, received the Air Force Commendation Medal on December 16 from Lt. Gen. Glen R. Birchard. The citation notes meritorious service from February 12 1964 to June 30 1966 at Offutt Air Force Base Nebraska. Benfer is the son of Fount A. Benfer and Hilma Mabry, attended Clifton High School before enlisting in 1956, and is married to Margaret A. Pettys with four children.
