Captain E C Smith of the DPS Waco Region urges motorists to inspect their vehicles during the 1969 period. With 1 million done and 5 million more to go, lines may form as deadlines approach. Texas has 5500 inspection stations with a minimum fee of 1.75 dollars plus repair costs. A safe car reduces hazards on highways regardless of driver skill.

Texas DPS Launches Operation Motorcide for Holiday Driving
Colonel Wilson E Pat Speir director of the Texas Department of Public Safety announces a special Operation Motorcide. All DPS officers will be on duty with radar helicopters and VASCAR enforcement from 6 p m December 31 to midnight January 1 to cut holiday traffic deaths. VASCAR speeds clocks speeders while cars move.
