Texas hunting fishing boating drive large economic impact

J B Phillips of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department told sheriffs and deputies that hunting fishing and boating underpin communities. He cited 240 378 registered boats in 11 months of 1968 and license sales totaling over 5 million dollars for the department while noting initial boat costs and smaller craft.

Contract Let for 3 Area FM Roads

The Texas Highway Commission awarded a highway construction contract in the Waco district. Harold Martin Construction Co. of Kerrville will grade, build structures, base and surface 9.4 miles of Farm to Market Roads 3116 v7 and 1238 in Bosque and Hamilton Counties at a low bid of 257 993.52 dollars. The project runs from State Highway 22 west of the Whitney Dam to 1.3 miles northeast of the junction of FM 927 and FM 56 near Lake Whitney and extends south toward the Bosque and Hamilton county lines, with completion in about 180 working days under District Engineer Brooks Evans and Highway Department engineer Ralph of Hamilton.

Yule Lighting Winners Named in Civic Contest

Three out of town judges toured Clifton on Monday night to select winners in the Civic Improvement Society Christmas Outdoor Decoration Contest. Top honors went to Mr. and Mrs. William T. Thompson for Most Beautiful, with others named in Religious and Original divisions. Winners receive checks of 10 dollars for first and 5 dollars for runners-up.

Community Choir to Sing Carols Downtown Tonite

A community choir will perform Christmas music downtown in Clifton at the Lone Star Gas Co. building starting at 6 30 p m Thursday. Rev Curtis Holland gives the invocation. Bill Rucker directs the choir with Trinity Lutheran Church. Singers should arrive before 6 20 p m. A loud speaker will reach drivers and parked cars outside. The program includes carols scripture reading prayer and a sermonette lasting about 30 minutes.
