DPS Chief Seeks Safer Driving During Holiday Travel
Texas DPS Director Colonel Wilson Speir predicts up to 87 traffic deaths during the Christmas and New Year holidays. He cites 54 expected deaths from Christmas Eve to Dec 28 and 33 from New Year’s Eve to Jan 4, urging Texans to drive safely. Clifton High's Cross Country Debuts With Strong State Showing
Clifton High School entered a state cross country two mile meet for the first time. Four of seven runners scored enough points to place 5th with 98 team points. Sorenson finished 4th despite illness, aided by Ramey Vanderlinden and Wallace. Other Clifton runners Bakke Campbell and Kubiak competed. Coach Aubrey Roberts praised the result and aims for improvement as health improves.

Wreck spree in Clifton injures three. $3,475 damage
A two day crash series in Clifton left three people hurt and eight cars damaged totaling about 3475 dollars. The first wreck Tuesday at Ave G and 9th damaged two cars with no injuries. A second collision at Ave J and West 9th involved a 1964 Chrysler and a 1966 Chevrolet, sending three people to Goodall-Witcher Hospital with injuries.

Major Olsen Receives Air Force Cross for Heroic Rescue
Vietnam veteran Major Don P. Olsen, HH-3 Jolly Green Giant pilot, earned the Air Force Cross for a daring mission to recover survivors of a downed helicopter and 25 airmen during combat operations. He is the son of Mrs. Virgie P. Olsen of Clifton and R. F. Olsen of Houston.
