City tax collections rise slightly with audit findings

An audit shows city tax collections at 2.1 percent delinquent as of Sept 30, down from 4 percent last year. CPA Richard D. Lundberg told City Council at City Hall last week that written procedures and periodic fixed asset inventories could improve control. Mayor Jim B. Smith supported inventory records as a management tool.

Museum may get grant for Bosque Memorial

City Attorney reports a possible CETA grant to help Bosque Memorial Museum with finances. A curator at Groesbeck museum is funded by CETA and a city contract would be needed to operate with a CETA employee. Mayor notes current wage range for CETA positions.

Three-Vehicle Crash Near Clifton Causes Damages

A Friday afternoon accident on Farm Market Road 219 five miles west of Clifton involved a 1976 station wagon driven by Mrs Lonnie Reesing and two pickups. The heavily damaged pickup skidded and struck a 1965 pickup driven by Vernon Meyer, while the station wagon sustained moderate damage on a wet road per Trooper Gerald Baker of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Clifton man receives three year sentence for felony assault

Robert Lee Addington, indicted by the November grand jury, is sentenced to three years in the Texas Department of Corrections for assault with a deadly weapon. Police Chief Alvin James reports the case was heard in Gatesville by Judge Byron McClellan of the 52nd Judicial District Court.

Clifton Housing Authority Board Reappointed

The City Council reappointed members to the Clifton Housing Authority Board of Commissioners and renamed chairman Mrs. J. C. Kincheloe Floyd Gray William T. Jordan William Kettler and Joe White. Alderman Donald A. Gloff urged an annual CHA report and Mayor Smith described the board as largely autonomous under federal guidelines. The Clifton Record will run Christmas and New Year greetings with deadlines and contact details for advertisers.

Theft, Vandalism Reported Across Local Buildings

A .30-30 rifle, a 20-gauge shotgun, and a CB radio were stolen from a locked pickup in the Goodall Witcher Hospital Foundation lot on Tuesday night December 7. Nearby, three gum machines and a stand were taken from T P Drive In Laundry. Over the weekend, 8 to 10 windows were broken at the Community Public Service Company warehouse.

Clifton schools announce Christmas holiday schedule

Clifton Schools will dismiss at the regular hour Friday December 17 for Christmas holidays and return to classes at the regular time Monday January 3. The Clifton ISD Tax Office will observe the same holiday schedule.

Rotary elects 77 78 officers for Bosque County club

The Bosque County Clifton Rotary Club elected officers and directors for the 1977 78 year. Clarence Fields Jr will be president and Shelby Richardson will continue as president through June 30 1978 with Donald L Finstad as vice president Joe Bryan as secretary and Richard D Lundberg as treasurer. New directors taking office July 1 include C M Pete Elmore Charles Maddux Calvin Reuter Terry Spicer and Shelby Richardson as immediate past president. Bosque County 1974 farm sales total $21 million

Census figures show Bosque County farms produced $21,134,080 in agricultural sales in 1974 from 1,028 farms with production expenses of $20,081,000. Among farms with at least $2,500 in sales there were 620 with $20,696,000 of sales, average size up to 834 acres, and value per acre rising to $311. The breakdown covers livestock, poultry, and crop sales with 47 farms reporting under $1,000 in sales totaling $10,000. Clifton First.

Farm Bureau elects Rueter state director

Calvin Rueter of Clifton, president of the Bosque County Farm Bureau, was elected state director for District 8 at the 43rd annual Texas Farm Bureau meeting in Fort Worth. About 1,500 attendees and 1,000 voting delegates approved policies and national issue recommendations to send to the American Farm Bureau Federation in Honolulu.
