Lions Club Holiday Luncheon and Fund Drive Details

Clifton Lions Club held a December 13 luncheon with seventh grade girls singing carols under Patsy Ruth Lancaster. Guests included Buddy Scott General Foods Lloyd Wright Waco and others. New member L C Holloway joined. Methodist Church ladies provided the meal. The Boys and Girls Committee reported football season receipts netting 466.22 after expenses. Lion E B Harris thanked President T F Crawford for Christmas lights on town streets.

Bosque County Cotton Yield Increases Over 1965

Roye Payne of Clifton reports Bosque County cotton ginning finished with 1300 bales this year, up from 1152 bales in 1965. The bale averaged 510 pounds last year, and gains come from higher acreage and bale per acre yields.

Lime Plant Near Clifton Starts Rock Crushing Soon

Chem limestone plant six miles southwest of Clifton on FM 2606 plans to begin crushing rock this week to adjust machinery. A loading ramp, scales and stockpiles for four stone sizes will aid rail car loading while lime kilns are to be added in stages over about six months. A crusher component was sent to Dallas for repair.

War correspondent Gene Ashcraft heads to Viet Nam

Gene Ashcraft 28 son of Mrs P L Ashcraft of Clifton leaves Fort Worth to serve as war correspondent for the Fort Worth Star Telegram KFJZ and the Texas State Network. He is News Director at KFJZ and will write from Viet Nam under the by line Gene Craft. He plans to visit Texas servicemen, report regularly, and return home for Christmas with wife Charlotte and daughters Kim and Christi.

Mayor Charles M. Isenhower presents Clifton’s annual audit showing a strong financial position with a surplus of five to six thousand dollars. Expenditures include over thirty two thousand dollars on equipment and two employee raises. Per capita city government costs compare favorably at seventy two dollars and twenty one cents.

Clifton Cagers Fall to Burleson in Local Gym

On December 13 Clifton boys and girls were defeated by Burleson in the local gym. Burleson boys won 60 to 46 and Burleson girls won 47 to 22. Clifton youth teams next play in the Valley Mills tournament December 15 to 17 with girls at 7 30 p.m. and boys at 8 45 p.m.

Christmas Carols in Downtown Clifton on December 22

Citizens may hear the All Church Choir of Clifton sing Christmas carols at 7 p.m. Thursday December 22 from the Lone Star Gas Company. Speakers near the Christmas tree and other spots will project the program so the crowd can hear it across the area. The one hour event coincides with late shopping hours until 9 p.m.

Fort Worth Man Killed in Sunday Road Crash Near Valley Mills

Willie Thurman Balch 47 of Fort Worth died when his car hit a Valley Mills pickup on Old Coryell City road about one mile south of Valley Mills. Wife Bonnie and two children Gary 15 Connie 8 were injured. Walter Graves of Valley Mills uninjured. Balch taught at Green Elementary. survived by multiple siblings.

Clifton Youth Receives Air Force Second Lieutenant Commission

Lieutenant Glenn Reesing son of Mr and Mrs Albert Reesing of Clifton completed Officers Training at Lackland AFB San Antonio and was commissioned in the United States Air Force He is stationed at Ellsworth AFB Rapid City South Dakota and recently visited home on leave with his parents.

Baylor Chapel Choir Draws Crowd in Clifton Event

More than 300 people from Clifton and surrounding areas attended an 80 voice Baylor University Chapel Choir concert at First Baptist Church Clifton. Supper was served, decorations done by local youth, and Dr Euell Porter announced a live Mutual Network broadcast of Christmas selections on December 19 at 3 p.m. from Washington DC. The choir will also perform at the Southwestern Music Educators Convention in Boulder Colorado in March 1967.

Meridian Christmas Nativity Pageant Set for Dec 17 18

Meridian announces its annual Christmas Nativity Pageant on the courthouse lawn. The program runs about 30 minutes and repeats at 6 00 p m and 6 30 p m on Saturday and Sunday December 17 and 18. Jesse Gandy directs and invites the public.
