Meridian Gets Low Rent Homes

Congressman Poage announced that HUD granted Meridian a loan to start planning 24 low rent homes. Sixteen units will be for elderly residents. Board members inspected sites and interviewed owners about a possible location. Henry T Base chairs the Meridian housing group.

Stephen Rester Initiated Into Chemical Honor Society

Stephen Rester, a senior chemical engineering major at the University of Texas in Austin, was recently initiated into Phi Lambda Upsilon, the national honorary chemical society founded in 1899. He is an honor graduate of Clifton High School and a son of Mrs. W. W. Rester of Clifton Route 1.

Sheep Dog Trials Held December 4 Reported

Results told for sheep dog trials held Dec. 4 with prizes in two classes Ranch Dog Trials Open and Ranch. First place in Open went to Prin com owned by Archie Huetherford, with trophy donated by Chee Dunn's Garage Cranfil Gap. Second place to Pope Robert son of Figin, third to Mineo Jackie Heghey of Stephenville. Fly owned by Ray Parker of Figin won Open second, Rock owned by Harold Fall of Sam Saba took Open second, and Don owned by Ray Parker of Elgin took Open third.

VFW Post and Auxiliary Plan Christmas Supper

The Waco District Future Farmers of America will hold its annual banquet and talent contest Monday night December 13 at the M Elementary School cafeteria beginning at 7 30 o clock. Clifton High to Play in Meridian Invitation Tourney

Clifton High School will join Meridian High School in the Meridian Invitation Tournament Friday and Saturday with both boys and girls teams. The girls open at 5:00 PM Thursday versus Meridian, with later rounds set by winners or losers of Morgan Iredell. Finals are Saturday. consolation games begin at 5:00 PM and winners’ final at 8:30 PM.

Mrs Henry Helms Dies On December Night In Clifton

Mrs. Henry Helms 83 of Route 1 Clifton died at 9 15 pm Sunday at Clifton Hall Sunset Home after illness since February. She was born Adeline Caroline Bernhardt November 19 1882 near Brenham and moved to Bosque County as a child. Survived by husband Henry Fritz Helms, a son Odegaard deceased 1940, a daughter Ruth Mrs Ernest Hennig, grandchildren, and a long family history in the Womack Chase Garnersville Clifton area.

Shorthorns Bring $15705 At Clifton Show And Sale

Fifty four head of cattle sold for a total of $15,705 last Saturday in Clifton for the sixth annual Show and Sale of the Bosque County Shorthorn Breeders Association. Bulls totaled $342.50 each on 16 animals and females averaged $269.07. Top buyers included Curtis Lipham, F W Willis, Bill Ford, John W Wood, and JE Stock Farm. Grand Champion Bull Beauty's Cameo sold for $620.00. Reserve Grand Champion Bull Fernwood Vanguard went for $375.00. Grand Champion Female Mason Victoria 2nd brought $305.00 and Reserve Champion Female Bluestem Var Princess sold for $310.00. Facilities at Central Texas Fair hosted the event with an annual banquet at Charlie's Cafe.

Reorganization of Texas Farmers Home Administration Offices

L J Cappleman state director announces a reorganization consolidating 21 area offices into 14 district offices across Texas to speed loan approvals and servicing. George C Corley becomes district supervisor overseeing Bosque and Somervell Counties from Weatherford. Claude M Gattis previously led the area from Waco. Robert A Wells remains county supervisor for Bosque and Somervell from Meridian.

Cathy Lynn Tergerson Loses Leg After Rattlesnake Bite

Nine year old Cathy Lynn Tergerson, daughter of Lonnie and Mrs. Tergerson of Cranfills Gap, had her leg amputated below the knee at Providence Hospital in Waco after a rattlesnake bite on October 16 during dove hunting with her father. She earlier received skin grafts at Clifton hospital and intensive care before the final operation. Cathy Lynn is granddaughter of Clarence Tergerson and Mrs. Bronstad and great niece of Mrs. Everett W. Wallace and William Tergerson of Clifton.

Max Pruitt Sullivan 82 of Clifton dies Monday December 6 at Memorial Hall Clifton Sunset Home after two years of ill health. Funeral services were held December 8 at Clifton Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Reverend Clay L. Burns. Interment at Clifton Memorial Park. Born July 7 1883 in Missouri he lived in Texas since 1912 and farmed near Clifton until retirement eight years ago. He was father of Mrs James H Sinclair.
