Clifton resident Thomas H Ralph Jr a Texas A M College Civil Engineering student and son of Mr and Mrs T H Ralph of Clifton was named the outstanding Marine Officer Candidate in the United States He received the Commandant Trophy from Colonel J R Lizette in a ceremony at Texas A M President Earl Rudder and Dean J P Hannigan were among officials present Ralph earned a 96 28 score the high mark in summer training at Quantico and will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps upon graduation in June 1962 Texas A M is the first Texas college to win the award and the trophy will be displayed during the current academic year

Clifton Receives Special Day At 1962 Stock Show
Clifton earned a special invitation to a day at the 1962 Southwestern Exposition and Fat Stock Show in Fort Worth from January 26 to February 4. He will receive reserved seats at the rodeo, a spotlight introductory moment, and regional recognition. The plan includes a local band concert on the grounds and a cowgirl sweetheart to ride in the grand entry, with riding clubs participating in the parade and opening ceremonies.

Clifton High School squads were active in pre-district play last week. The girls beat China Spring 48 to 26 led by Christy Jenson with 22 points, while the A team lost 41 to 38. The B team won 45 to 33 with Bart Townsend high scorer. Boys split with McGregor 53-49 and 32-30 with Spitzer and Fredenburg leading. Upcoming games include Clifton girls at Meridian tournament December 7 and Clifton boys at Connally tournament.

One Killed Three Hurt In Car Wreck
A 64 year old McGregor man A. J. Boots Weakley was killed and three others injured when a car veered off the Clifton Valley Mills overpass. Injured were Johnny Boyd Marshall Katie McDaniels McGregor and Annie L McDonald McGregor. Boyd taken to Santa Fe Hospital Temple with undetermined injuries. McDaniels to McGregor hospital with head and leg cuts. McDonald to Providence Hospital Waco with a broken leg and other injuries. Sheriff said driver lost control after leaving the pavement sides, car fell onto the tracks below.

Mrs. Jake Ogle Dies Here After Stroke
Mrs. Emma Elizabeth Fort Ogle, 84, of Fairy, died December 4 at Memorial Hall Sunset Home Clifton after a paralysis stroke in May 1960. Born February 5, 1877 to R. T. Fort Sr. and Martha Fort, she married Jake Ogle in 1909 and ran their Fairy area farm after his death. Survived by Montie Reeves, one brother R. T. Fort Jr., three sisters Mattie Simpson Cornelia Turner Minnie Stailey, and several others, with funeral held December 6 at Clifton Funeral Home Chapel. Interment in Fairy Cemetery.

Bosque County TB Association Holds Quarterly Meeting
The Bosque County TB Association met at the Meridian Fire Hall on Friday November 17 at 9 00 A M with Mrs Carlie Schmidt presiding. Discussion covered what the board and individual citizens could do to help control tuberculosis in the county. Christmas seal bonds were approved to be sold this year and a county tuberculosis test was set with Mrs James Burch elected chair. The next meeting is January 5 at Charlies Cafe Clifton.

Santa Fe Crew Replaces Rail Laying Long Sections
The Santa Fe Railway employs a large crew this week in the county to lay long rails, replacing about a quarter mile of track daily. The group includes roughly 16 machine operators and over 70 other workers plus the local section crew. Work proceeds from seven to eight quarter miles each day and in Clifton yard areas with switches and devices, requiring careful timing to remove a quarter mile and replace it between trains.

Thomas Stephen Donoghue 77 of the Clifton Sunset Home died at the local hospital after a heart attack on November 27 and prior leg amputation. Born in San Antonio April 22 1884 he lived in Ireland and traveled widely for oil work. Survived by sister Vera Davidson of San Antonio. Interest ran high at the Bosque County Shorthorn Association fall sale in Clifton on Saturday December 2 with bulls and females averaging above 1960 levels. Bulls averaged 287 dollars up from 274 dollars, while females averaged 301 dollars up from 238 dollars. Village Lad owned by Bruce Lane of Comanche topped bulls at 540 dollars. Lovely Broadbooks 8th owned by Lane topped females at 455 dollars. Top five bulls averaged 452 dollars in 1960 versus 388 this year. top five females averaged 420 dollars this year versus 367 dollars last year. Jenson Siblings Reunite After 33 Years Visit
H G Jenson of Springfield Oregon visited here from November 10 to December 2 with sister Mrs. Tom Humphries. They had not seen each other in 33 years. They spent November 14 to 17 in New Iberia Louisiana with brother and sister in law Mr. and Mrs Fred Jenson. Mrs Humphries was brought to Louisiana by her daughter Mrs Gordon Saunders of Dallas.
