Clifton's American Legion Post and Auxiliary announce their annual Christmas supper at 6 30 p m Saturday December 4 at the Legion Post home in City Park. The event will be a covered dish affair with turkey dressing and ham provided by the post. All members and their wives are invited. There will be no gift exchange this year.
The Record reports Barney Williams of Route 1 Clifton will run for Precinct 3 commissioner. Williams says after consideration and encouragement from friends he has decided to announce his candidacy. a formal announcement and qualifications will follow after the new year.
Jacksboro steamed to a 30-0 playoff victory over Clifton before 5,000 fans in Cleburne. The Tigers rushed for 242 yards in the first half while limiting Clifton to 61 on the ground after intermission. Lee Cook added a 27 yard field goal late, and four Jacksboro backs finished in double digits. Tom Henderson led Clifton with 70 yards.
Bosque County Sheriff John Baxter Deputy Roland Howard and Texas Rangers Bill Gunn and James Wright from Waco raided a mobile home and barn on the Basque Hill line on the night before Thanksgiving. They arrested William Alton Glenn of Waco and William Lee Plunkett of Aquilla on charges of concealing stolen merchandise. Bond set at $20,000 each. Loot includes antiques and tools. owners urged to identify items at the Meridian courthouse.
City officials held a special meeting to reconsider a November motion to pay Mayor Charles Isenhower's expenses for a National League of Cities meeting in Hawaii. Councilmen Hoff Belcher and Bryn challenged how the prior motion was handled, noting it had not been voted on. The session at City Hall lasted over an hour and ended with renewed questions about the November minutes.
Womack Lodge No. 135 will hold its family night Christmas party on Sunday December 5 beginning with a covered dish supper at 6 p.m. Gifts will be exchanged and an attendance prize awarded. All members urged to attend.
The WWI Barracks and Auxiliary announce a Christmas supper on December 7 at 6 pm. Mrs. Martha Lyons hosts at 702 West 3rd Street, Clifton. Attendees bring a covered dish and gifts to exchange.
The Goodall-Witcher Hospital Auxiliary held a November 16 meeting at Mrs. Bobby Conrad's home with twenty members and two guests. They viewed the AMA film The One Who Heals, outlined the December 12 Christmas Home Tour, and scheduled a poster party for November 28.
The Senior Citizens will offer handmade gift items for sale this Friday at Clifton City Hall. The public is invited to visit between 1 and 5 PM for shopping.
