Cotton Referendum Dates Out for Bosque County Growers

Bosque County cotton growers will vote December 5 to 9 on the cotton referendum and marketing quota referendum with mail in ballots. Extension speakers explained the Cotton Research and Promotion Act and the $1.00 per bale assessment, its approval processes, and potential governance by a Cotton Board.

Clifton High opens 1966-67 basketball with busy week

Clifton High School begins the 1966 67 basketball season for both boys and girls. The girls lost 57 56 in overtime to Crawford last Tuesday while the B team beat Crawford 35 21. An away tournament at Bruceville Eddy features Clifton vs Troy on Thursday with 5 15 P M girls and 6 30 P M boys games. second games follow Saturday. Next week the A teams play Burleson High on Tuesday with girls at 7 00 and boys after. Dayton Whitehurst coaches the girls. Richard Liardon expects a full schedule next week.

Farmers Union To Meet December Fifth in Valley Mills

Lanmons' Baby Born Dead in Clifton

A baby boy was born dead Friday November 18 to Mr and Mrs G W Lanmon of 414 North Avenue L Clifton at the local hospital. Graveside services were held the same day at Clifton Cemetery with Reverend R H Wuensche officiating. He is survived by his parents and an older sister Tammy Kay, 5.

Santa Claus to Visit Clifton Saturday Christmas Opening Planned

Santa will visit downtown Clifton at 2 pm Saturday, greet kids, and hand out candy as merchants stage the Clifton Christmas Opening from Wednesday to Saturday with bargain prices. A free two hour showing of Namu the Killer Whale at Clifton Theatre begins 10 am Saturday for children under 12. The town decor and a Navajo Forest spruce tree from Window Rock, Arizona, add festive display across North Avenue D and West Sid Street, honors Clifton residents, Mrs. Essie Wilson Green, Leslie Holmes, and the Navajo Tribe for the 1946 holiday season.

Death of Herbert Ender Mourned in Clifton Area

Herbert F. Ender 58 of Route 1 Clifton died November 24 in a local hospital after a jeep accident October 4 between Clifton and Coyote. He was a lifelong farmer, former director of the Central Texas Fair Association, and a longtime member of Zion United Church of Christ. Surviving siblings include Gerhardt and Harold. services were held November 26 at Zion United Church of Christ with interment at Chase Cemetery. A livestock sale and Bosque County Shorthorn event followed the funeral.

Bob McLean of the Waco Social Security District Office will be at Clifton City Hall dining room at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday December 6 to discuss Social Security issues with local residents. He notes a widow who remarries after age 60 may receive the larger of half the former husband’s retirement benefit or a wife's benefit from the present husband’s earnings.

Isenhowers to Attend National Cities Meeting in Las Vegas

Clifton Mayor and Mrs. Charles M. Isenhower will fly from Love Field at noon Friday to Las Vegas Nevada for the Congress of Cities Meeting the National League of Cities convention. He represents the Texas Municipal League as first vice president and serves on the National League of Cities Intergovernmental Relations Committee. They plan to return to Clifton Wednesday night next week.
