Holy Angels Church Becomes Bosque County Mission In 1954
Clifton Holy Angels Catholic Church established as a mission in 1954 and dedicated Sunday August 29. From 1954 the parish faced humble beginnings with Mass on a cement floor, a shared altar, and growing efforts by Fathers Merkel Gillespie Taaffee to fund and plan the project. The land was bought in 1956 near Fifth and Avenue as fundraising continued through rummage sales and dinners.

The new Holy Angels Catholic Church at Fifth Street and Avenue There will be dedicated as a temporary building to serve Catholics in Clifton and surrounding area. It features a nave balcony sanctuary meeting room sacristy storage rooms seating 132 and 2 566 square feet of space. The structure uses ten laminated wood beams and arches with a wood ceiling up to 37 feet high. Construction cost is about 88 911 exclusive of land and furnishings.

Clifton relatives learn of the death of Mrs Adolph Ott 61 in a Dallas hospital on Tuesday August 17 after a heart condition. The Veterans of Foreign Wars sponsor a safety ride for Clifton bicycle riders on Saturday morning August 23 from 8 to 10 in front of the Public Schools. She leaves three daughters Mrs Ike Keley Stella Mrs Edward Keley Christine and Mrs Lottie Ruth two sons in law and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday August 16 at the Sierra Blanca Methodist Church with burial in Sierra Blanca Cemetery. Mr and Mrs Cottrell left for Sierra Blanca on Sunday August 15 after being notified.
