Clifton Junior Chamber of Commerce members voted to sponsor a city landing strip project to secure state aid. A committee led by James Wright will plan the effort and invite resident input as Clifton prepares a booth for the Central Texas Fair later this month.
Registration opened this week in Clifton for the fifth annual Punt Pass Kick competition for boys up to 13 years old. The program, begun in 1881, has drawn millions of participants and will culminate in a halftim e show at the Dallas Cowboys game with winners advancing to regional finals and a national event in Miami.
Robert Rachwig, long time employee, was named temporary manager of Clifton Thrifty Super Market. Martin Clifton will serve as temporary manager until a permanent replacement is found. Grace Memorial Church notes change as owners plan a conference with Sermrede’s to finalize the store’s leadership.
Mrs John announces the lease of the Artistic Float Shop at SIS North Ave to Git Cliften, effective Wednesday. Mra Feen, former owner, will divest the lease with the Second Toower owner.
Clifton Public Schools opened for 1985 68 with total enrollment higher than any previous first day count. Superintendent Appleby reported 208 enrollments in elementary and junior high 239 in high school totaling 402 and 239 respectively with anticipation of 8 to 12 more students by week’s end.
Biloxi Mississippi couple announces the birth of Allan George on August 27 1985 in Clifton hospital weighing 6 pounds 11 ounces with a 15 month old sister Alice Marie. Clifton area families report Tracy Lynne born August 26 1985 weighing 7 pounds 10 ounces to Wayne and Si mon Bean. Rex Meridian residents James Kirby born August 1985 weighing 7 pounds 8 ounces. Bridget Annette born August 30 1985 to Harry D Talley of Dallas weighing 7 pounds 7 ounces. Tracie Jean Swindell born August 30 1965 in Clifton hospital weighing 8 pounds 6 ounces.
Jim N Grimland, 85, of Crawfills Gap died August 31 at Memorial Hall in the Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home where he had resided since May 22, 1982. Funeral services set for September 2 at Clifton Lutheran Home Chapel with Rev. Walter T. Gigstad. Interment in Boggy Cemetery.
James Smith and his family, owners of the Clifton Record, moved to Clifton last weekend and assume operations at 814 Wes 3rd Street. Smith, a Pearl High School graduate and former airman, joins partners Sterling J Edwards of Gatesville and Robert S Edwards of Denton in running the paper.
A Wednesday night fire at the Farm and Ranch Store in Clifton damaged the rear incubator and ceiling with smoke and water. the contents are expected to be a total loss though salvaging may reach about 1500 dollars. The building repair status was not yet known.
Local Clifton businesses and Clifton Public Schools will close on Labor Day Monday September 6 as part of a citywide observance. The notice urges shoppers to visit this weekend and notes the upcoming football season opener for Clifton High School Cubs against Hillsboro. Entries for Home Economics are due September 8 Livestock entries must be postmarked by September 15.
Clifton's official gauge recorded 0.5 inch of rainfall Tuesday night and 0.5 inch by 7:00 am Wednesday. With Tuesday's rain, August total reaches 3.43 inches. Lush pastures and roadside grass give Bosque County's August 1965 a greener look than in prior years.
Clifton and Bosque County voters will participate in a special constitutional amendment election on Tuesday September 7. Ted B. Evans will serve as election judge for the Clifton box at City Hall dining room with voting hours from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The amendment seeks expanding the State Senate from 21 to 39 members while preserving the House, apportioning by population, and removing the one Senator per county limit.
