Bosque County prepares for the third war loan drive under the motto Back the Attack. Chairman urges residents to meet the quota as the April campaign continues. Past efforts show $6,083,000 in war bonds purchased in the courts with individual and nonbank buyers contributing across the county.
Instructions explain that the draft board will advise that farming operations require machines to stay in operation and that Perm Trucks and Farm Engines should be serviced before private autos. Registrants must keep the local board informed of mailing addresses, report changes, and ensure their forwarding addresses are current to avoid missing notices.
Mrs L D Sanders receives a letter from her son J R Sanders, a prisoner of war in the Shanghai War Prison Camp, describing sparse lines amid hardship. He notes a Christmas dinner with turkey and trimmings arranged by Red Cross and authorities, thanks to aid from the International Red Cross and American British property in Shanghai, and sends wishes for a peaceful New Year.
Senator Karl L Lovelady spoke at a Lions Club gathering with Clifton Church and Trinity Lutheran Church ladies in attendance. The roll call showed four absentees and plans to raise charges for luncheons starting September. Directors proposed funding for a writing and learning project and committees were formed for related community efforts.
The Civic Improvement Society will meet at City Hall on Wednesday in September at 3 00 PM. Officers listed include Mesademe Clara Wentley Percy Sormrwle and Alfred Canuteson. Time change noted for attendees.

Flight Officer Jack Nabors of Clifton, son of Mr and Mrs John Nabors, and husband of Ima Lee Dulin of San Angelo, received the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement in the Southwest Pacific. He flew more than 60 missions as pilot of an Air Transport Command plane, dropping supplies and transporting troops after enlisting at Goodfellow Field. He became a flight officer earlier this year and departed for overseas service March 23.
Clifton College announces accredited public speaking courses led by Mise Bula Lage as head of English. The college also secured an expert teacher in public speaking and is now positioned to offer these important courses to students.
Congressmen Congdon and Poage are slated to visit on September 3 for an engagement. Local organizers aim to recruit speakers and discuss district priorities at the event.
Lt Alvin C Jorgenson of Clifton survives the crash of the Flying Fortress Alcohol Annie in the North Sea after a raid on Berlin. Five crew members are listed missing in action while five were rescued after the plane exploded and sank within seconds. British rescue forces located the survivors about 30 miles from the German coast, dropping a lifeboat by parachute. Jorgenson, navigator, lived on a farm west of Clifton and trained at Clifton Junior College before enlisting in the Army Air Forces.
Old type B and C gasoline ration coupons expire. Local boards adjust Aug. 4 inspections for C book holders. Blue Stamps R S expire Sept. 20 and 21 basic A gasoline book 1 good for three gallons. Sugar stamps 14 Book 1 valid five pounds. Stamp 18 Book 1 valid for one pair of shoes expires. Oct. 31 deadline for validity of stamps 15 16 for sugar.
Stores to close at five Thursday for Gap Rodeo festival at Centh Gap, offering a chance to attend the event. Local notices warn attendees about opening hours and timing for the proceedings, including rides and events beginning in the early evening.
Clifton High announces a bright 1943 season with six lettermen back and many hopefuls. Coach Juel plans early September training as Clifton lists six opponents with tentative and confirmed sites from September through November. A gym session is set for Monday August 30 at 6:00 p.m. to encourage all players to attend.
Clifton Junior College schedules regular sessions to start Tuesday September 7 at 8:00 PM in Yoee auditorium with an opening program.
