Carlson born Gustavs Gundergon in Norway May 29 1902 died August 18 at her home in Cove Texas She immigrated with her mother and sister Bertha arriving Round Neck Texas in December She married Christian P Carlson December 24 1882 and had 12 children two died in infancy She leaves a husband nine living children 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren Funeral held August 17 at St Dist Church with burial in Cran Gate Gap area
Mosque County resumes its Third War Loan campaign opening September 9 under the same county and community committeemen who led the County to success in April. Dr Garland Davie of Meridian is reappointed county war bond chairman as the county oversubscribed about 40 percent while the state average ran 44 percent. Boeune’s quota for the next drive is not yet set but will be larger. banks will not participate. Community chairmen remain largely the same with Meridian and Koppert adding changes. County secretary and publicity chair Moran Durisp is reappointed. an all-hands meeting will outline plans for the drive.
Local American Legion drives a fund for cigarettes for forest troops. The campaign totals 30.65 dollars, with 20.65 dollars raised so far from Legion members and the community. Volunteers urge more dime drops to secure the order for the boys.
Cpl Ralph Hampe earned his diploma from the Douglas Aircraft Factory in Lang Beach California on August 10 and has been transferred to Ravens Utah for further schooling. He previously graduated as an airplane mechanic from Gulfport Field Mississippi after enlisting in September 1942 at Blackland Army Flying School Waco Texas. He has since moved through Mississippi for additional studies to support Army aviation work and hopes for a furlough to visit family back home.

Mrs A K Anderson born Gunild Oleane Minaland died Saturday August 14 at her son's home aged 80 years 1 month 26 days. Funeral from home and Trinity Lutheran Church Sunday with burial in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Lieutenant Hyde a Marine officer from Bosque County recounts service with England Commandos in the Vasger raid Norway last year and notes damage to Nazi property and prisoner captures. He also joined a later Bt Nazaire raid in France and has two special decorations from Lord Mountbatten and a commendation from a U S Navy captain. He has fought in four South Pacific engagements and is favored for captaincy.
The War Department notified that James Finley Richards, formerly from Clifton area in New Mexico, prisoner after the fall of Bataan, has been moved to Camp Osaka in Japan. Cards from Finley say he is well and employed. This is the first word to Mr and Mrs Richards since a radiogram on Day 2H 1041.
The Clifton Independent School District will discuss read and approve the 1943-44 budget at a called board meeting in Clay Hall on Monday night August 23, 1948. The public is invited to attend and participate during the session.
In Sacramento Aug T Maj Gen Lewin B Hershey, director of selective service, said some draft boards will delay calling fathers until January 1. He noted the draft would first exhaust the national pool of single men before reaching those with dependents. He also mentioned possible delays lasting months and cited War Powers Commission orders affecting exemptions and calls.
