Citizens of Itil County schedule John Tower Day on Thursday with Senator Tower opening convocation at 10 am and giving a noon luncheon address at First Methodist Church in Millsboro. Two hundred expected. luncheon tickets cost 3.00.
Parade to begin Thursday September 2 at 6 PM in downtown Clifton marking the start of a three day Central Texas Fair and Rodeo. Participants include high school bands and riding clubs from eight surrounding counties Bosque Coryell Hamilton Frath Sommervell Johnson Hill and McLennan. Agricultural and home economics entries will be shown in the Central Texas Fair Barns and Buildings.
Funeral services for Rudolph Alexander Rudy Johnson Clifton City Councilman and CPS manager were held Monday at Trinity La Eewii Kaitt officiating. Interment followed in Rock Church Cemetery near Crantills Gap. Born July 24 1914 in Crафills Gap he began delivering ice in Clifton in 1947 and rose to power line crew and CPS roles.
Clifton community notes show 51 Cub Booster Club members paid for 1971 as Ed Bryn and Doyle Hulme assume leadership roles. New directors Rev Frank Horak Jerry Sadler and Fritz Thiele join replacing Don Olson Willie Wenzel. The 40th Central Texas Fair charter restored from 1937 behind show barn files signals local historic ties.
A record 758 students enrolled by the third day of classes in the Clifton Independent School District for the 1971-72 year, led by a senior class of 64 and overall totals of 378 in elementary, 177 in junior high, and 251 in high school. Superintendent Kent Appleby notes the gain of 38 students from last year and that several students may still register late.
The Civic Society outlines cleanup duties and a turkey dinner to be served Friday September 6 at Central P esds Fatr and Hadi. Members including Mrs Emme Pendleton and Mrs Gustowel organize volunteers and call for attendance and help by 4 pm for the turkeys dinner event and related preparation.
A pre fair work night is set for Monday August 30 starting at 7:30 p.m. to tidy the fair grounds. Homer JicDougal and Jim Jones urge wide turnout with men for grass work and repairs while Mrs Paul Barnett asks women supervisors and assistants to help clean the home economics building on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
Pastor Erwin H Knitt of Clifton’s Trinity Lutheran Church resigns and moves to Huntsville. He will preach his last sermon on Sunday August 29 at 10 am. A reception for the Knitt family is set for 3 to 4 pm in Fellowship Hall. The event invites area friends to attend.
Bosque County Senior Citizens prepare for the Second Annual Domino and Forty-Two Tournament on September 2 at 4:00 pm in Clifton First Methodist Church Educational Building. Teams from Clifton Cranfills Gap Iredell Laguna Park Meridian Mosheim Walnut Springs compete. entries include Cayote Downey Downie and Downey, Clifton Dominos led by Mrs Lyons and Lawrence Lund, and others with alternates noted. Spectators welcome. prizes awarded to top contenders. inquiries to Clifton and Ireveil organizers.
A Bosque Valley Recreation Club meeting for women members is set for Friday August 27 at 8 p.m. at the club house to organize a Ladies Golf Association and arrange group golf lessons. All interested players are urged to attend.
