James F. Bishop, 34, of Hamlin, was fatally shocked near Abilene at Dyess Air Force Base while contacting a 7000 volt line while employed by Voss Electric. He died at a hospital after the incident. Clifton Boys Enjoy Trip To Mexico
The Big Staters from Clifton returned to Waco on August 16 after playing six games in Monterrey Mexico. Kenneth Leck Larry Grimland and Seth Witcher were on the trip. Larry pitched and won the only game Clifton won 3 to 2 against Monterrey. Kenneth Leck made five putouts at second base in one game and displayed fine fielding. Larry started the opening game but was relieved with an 8 to 1 lead. The Mexican team rallied to win 9 to 8. At Big State camp Johnnie Carrigan awarded Larry the Most Valuable Player Award in the Little League of 60 boys. Larry hit .700 in all star games and Kenneth had a .333 batting average and strong defense. The Clifton boys enjoyed a memorable summer and called the trip paradise for baseball lovers.

Lions Hear Flentge On Boys' School Reforms In Central Texas
Harry W. Flentge of Gatesville, president of the Central Texas Safety Committee, urged Clifton Lions to press Governor for reforms at Gatesville State School for Boys, calling it a country club for wayward youths. The group seeks to remove the school from the State Youth Council and gain better discipline and work for the boys. CHS Cubs Bruised After Early Practice Sessions To Play Hillsboro
Clifton High Cubs finished ten days of two a day drills with scrimmages against Gatesville and McGregor. The team showed stronger defense than offense, with backfield shifts underway to replace graduating seniors. Susan Kelly Returns Home After Two Months Visit
Mrs. J. M. Jorgenson escorted her granddaughter Miss Susan Kelly who spent two months in Clifton to Fort Worth to visit her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Kelly. The elder Kellys then traveled to Raton New Mexico to meet Susan's parents Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Kelly, who later planned to reunite Sunday in Monte Vista Colorado before returning to Fort Collins Colorado for the school opening. Mrs. Jorgenson also visited Fort Worth friends before heading home.
Mrs. T. C. Duke Dies. Clifton Native Rites Held
Mrs. Thomas Clarence Duke longtime Clifton resident died August 12 at her daughter’s Fort Worth home. Funeral services were at Laodecia Primitive Baptist Church with burial in Rosehill Cemetery. She left son Ray Duke of Fort Worth two daughters Ruth Allen and Marie Nichols four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
