Clifton High Band Set First Practice Friday Morning
Clifton High School band will start practice at 7 30 Friday morning in the Band Hall led by band director Glen Jacob with Superintendent Kent Appleby noting the session. The band will perform at the Clifton Hills football game on September 4 and again at halftime. Fifty four Bosque County Home Demonstration Club members met August 13 in Clifton City Hall dining room for a day of activities headed by Mrs E C Johle.

Mr and Mrs Lawrence Ringness and relatives spent August 7 to 10 visiting in Mercedes with Mr and Mrs Omer Lee Hix and daughters Mary and Nan. They enjoyed a Padre Island picnic, a Gulf swim, and a trip into Old Mexico. Hix remains with the U S Immigration Service. Mary will teach at Cullen Junior High in Corpus Christi and Nan will be a senior at Mercedes High School.

Central Texas bus breaks down at station delaying passengers
A Central Texas Lines bus broke down at the local station last Saturday with a flat tire and transmission trouble. Passengers waited about an hour for a replacement bus from the Waco terminal. About twenty travelers, including a cowboy guitar player, moved to the new bus and continued their trip. Record jackhammers work on Fossett's Gulf Station paving on Ave. G as George and Marvin lower the grade to ease car access.

Clifton High Cheerleaders Attend SMU Schools
Three Clifton High cheerleaders Kay Roberts Kitey Bennett and Janice Huse and two twirlers Janet Schrantz and Lavonne Eggen spent last week at Cheerleading and Twirling Schools at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Lavonne will be Clifton High drum major and Janet received drum major instruction. The Eggen and Roberts families aided their trip and Dallas residents Joe Harper and Mr. and Mrs. Harpers brought the girls home.

Thursday morning prices from Clifton buyers show eggs at 30 to 32 cents a dozen for Grade A large, 23 to 25 cents for Grade A medium, 15 cents for B medium, pullets 15, cracks 12. Grain lists oats 60 cents per bushel, milling wheat 150 dollars, barley 90 cents, milo 185 per cwt, yellow corn 130. Cattle: about 550 head, market steady to strong. steer and yearling 20 to 22, medium to good 18 to 20, butcher calves 18 to 22, stocker steers 18 to 21, steer calves 19 to 22.50, butchers cows 11 to 14, cows and calves 90 to 150. Hogs top 16.50 to 17 dollars.

Clifton police chief James Bird will resign effective September 1 after a formal letter to Mayor E V Stevens and the City Council. He cited a more attractive offer with less hours and more pay, and said he will remain in law enforcement. Mr and Mrs Ray Bryn and two sons Randy and Kirby visited Clifton from Saturday to Monday with Mrs John Bryn in the home of her son, then went to Fort Worth for a month of treatment after brain tumor surgery. Kent Westley Family Visit Ties to Minnesota Move

Real Live Chicken Hawk Sniper Training in West Texas
A chicken hawk named Sniper is being trained in falconry at the Jackson residence in West Texas. He shares his yard with nine trained black ravens kept as pets and performing tricks. Jackson explains birds adjust to captivity, enjoy human companionship, and seem eager to please. Sniper eats when hungry, sometimes a whole live animal if available, often chopped raw liver. He remains aloof yet loyal to his keeper and projects a striking presence around the Jackson home.

Funeral Services Held Aug 14 For Max Gustav Wurbs
Max Gustav Wurbs, 39, died August 12 at Clifton hospital. Funeral at Immanuel Lutheran Church August 14, officiated by Rev. M. S. Spenn of Mart, burial in Clifton Cemetery with Clifton Funeral Home in charge. Survived by parents Max H. and Ida Wurbs, four brothers Herman Bryan Herbert Clarence Franklin, one sister Mildred Newman, and a half sister Elsie Young. He was born July 14, 1925 in Hamilton County. An avid hobbyist, he practiced scroll woodworking, oil painting, photography, radio and TV repairs, and managed thermal fish. He had heard Sunday sermons via taped recordings for ten years. He moved to Bosque County at age 9 and was a member of Immanuel Church.

Hans Olson Dies At Sunset Home At 91
Hans Olson died at the Clifton Sunset Home Memorial Hall at 7:15 PM Monday August 17. He was 91 years old and had lived in Bosque County and Hebbrowville before moving to Clifton in 1957. He is survived by son Bill Olson, brother Peter Olson, and two sisters. Funeral services were held August 19 at the Clifton Sunset Home Chapel, with interment at St Olaf Rock Church Cemetery.
