Clifton Blue Sox defeat Euless Cardinals 7 to 3 in Meridian to clinch the District 4 Junior Tournament title. Gary Anz and Jim Thompson had two hits apiece, while seven walks and fielding miscues helped spark Clifton's victory over Euless in the finals.
Texas A and M University registrar H L Heaton announced 535 students applied for degrees to be conferred August 21 at summer term end. Among them 323 seek bachelor’s degrees. Walter Alfred Prescher Jr of Route 1 Clifton earns a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education.
Clifton's Blue Sox lost to Bay City 2 to 1 in the first round of the State Tournament at Brownwood. The local team was set to meet Marfa at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the second round of the double elimination event.
In a tournament finale, Euless tallied three runs across the second, third, and sixth innings to stay ahead. Clifton contributed two runs in the second, third, and fifth and did not bat again after leading, while Meridian convened an All Tournament Team selection as the event wrapped on the back page.
Four town teams played at City Park this week with Clifton defeating Crawford 3 to 0 and McGregor beating Whitney 12 to 7. Clifton and McGregor earned a Thursday night final at 8 o'clock after Tuesday and Wednesday preliminary games. Clifton had previously shut out the Waco Hawks 3 to 0 to close their season.

A Clifton resident backed a car into the James F. O Shea home at 310 North Avenue Q around 9:00 PM injuring the exterior with about 400 dollars in damage. A local man was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Nearby at Lake Whitney, Don and Mrs Churchman narrowly escaped when their 1958 Chevrolet backed into the water after a gear shift error while loading a boat. The boat trailer and car were recovered and no serious injuries were reported.
Tim Mayfield of Waco representing the Portland Cement Association presented a film titled Pageant Of American Farms to Clifton Lions Club members at their Tuesday noon meeting August 11. New member Dr Don Gloff and transfer candidate Tom Hicks were mentioned, with guests Altenburg Payton Nichols McNeil Grimland Traylor attending along with a church dinner hosted by the Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Kanz son of Mr and Mrs Andrew Kanz Route 2 Clifton completed two weeks of active duty recruit training at the Naval Training Center San Diego Calif He received seamanship drill gunnery shipboard routine and naval subjects training plus a rigorous physical program He has returned to his local reserve unit for regular training sessions.
J L Standefer Jr and his son Brent flew to Denver Colorado last Friday to attend the Chevrolet Rocky Mountain Region New Car Showing at the Civic Auditorium. They returned to Clifton the same day.
Betty Low Reichert, daughter of H J Reichert of Route 2 Valley Mills, was chosen 1964 Farm Bureau Queen of Bosque County at Clifton while Belinda Annette Epley won the Little Miss Farm Bureau title. Judges faced a tie in both senior and Little Miss divisions amid a large audience at the Armory.
Mrs W P Mooney the former Valerie Shaw Goodall daughter of Dr and Mrs W D Goodall Clifton spent two weeks in Cologne Germany filming a TV spectacular titled Johann Strauss Invites. She plays Saffi the gypsy princess in scenes from The Gypsy Baron filmed in Castle Augustusburg Bruch and in the formal garden near the swan lake.
Dr Don Gloff of this city attended a Monday night meeting at Southwestern Medical School and Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas as part of the Monthly Surgical Journal Club event.
Clifton Mayor E V Stevens announced the appointment of Douglas Railsback as Director of Civil Defense for the Clifton area and noted his acceptance. Railsback, a Texas National Guard captain and assistant postmaster, will use his training to lead local civil defense efforts. The Clifton Post Office basement serves as a Civil Defense Shelter with equipment already stored there.
Mr and Mrs Troy Boyette of Goldthwaite announce the engagement of their daughter Vanice to Gary Lour son of Mr and Mrs Pete Sabalo of Albuquerque New Mexico The wedding is set for August 28 in Goldthwaite Vanice is the granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Willie H Mangham of Clifton
Two auto accidents occurred in and near Clifton last Sunday. A 1963 Ford driven by Roger Dengler of Arlington collided with a 1961 Chevrolet driven by William Bennett of Richardson near the Highway 6 traffic light in Clifton. Damage totaled about 300 dollars. Dengler was ticketed for failing to yield. No serious injuries.
A Clifton meeting at Cozy Corner Cafe rejected a Salvation Army field service unit for now. Police data on weekly transient cases and local needs prompt discussion of central committee action or Army support. Reverend Burns chaired the session with Salvation Army officials Homer Smith and Jack Sharkey present.

O C Anderson 61 died August 10 at the local hospital after asthma and heart disease complications. He was born August 23 1902 near Cranfills Gap, married Juantia Cox in 1923, and lived at 503 South Avenue E Clifton. He leaves five children Madge Vere Ann Joyce and four others.
Clifton Chief of Police James Bird says the city again accepts applications for the nightwatchman post. Truman D. Norris, who held the job briefly, resigned August 1, effective August 18, and plans to move with his family to Freeport to work for Dow Chemical Company.
